How many relationships do you know of that actually manage to stay healthy for an extended period of time when people have mutually exclusive belief systems? NOT MANY. Anyhow, WRT to his comment on "they don't need to, say, be good at computers or like computer games.", it's called "giving an example". Ease off. There's a difference between 'Christian' and 'actively Christian', and that difference is the line between a possible relationship and a probable trainwreck.

So, back on topic...Cobra: Huh? What you're looking for, then, is perfectly normal. There are probably people out there who fit that description, although the "as rational as me" bit might be a bit awkward. (What the hell does it mean? Are you saying you're 89.35% rational, and you want someone who's also 89.35% rational? How is it scored???) As for finding out that people to whom you were attracted were really not all that attractive, good. You've proven yourself smarter than a lot of guys our age, who will go through with a relationship with someone they really don't like just for the sake of some play.

Regardless, I say you're too skeptical of the whole relationships thing?and yeah, college is an entirely different social system as compared to high school, because there isn't anywhere near as much of the whole "A knows B, who hangs out with C, so D shouldn't talk to A because E doesn't like B" thing. If you don't get a girlfriend during high school, fine. You'll probably get one in college. If not, fine. You'll probably get one later in life, provided you actually go out and, like, socialize.
Thank you for your input and being serious, unlike some people here.

When I say "as rational as me", I mean that they are a skeptic as well and look at things in a scientific way. As you know, that's extremely uncommon in today's world. That's one reason I only want an atheist partner.

Given how much of a minority skeptics are, do you really think that I will come across someone that I will be attracted to? I think the numbers speak for themselves.

Last numbers I saw, skeptics made up up to ten percent of the US population (higher percentage in Europe.)

Now, homosexuals also are said to make up about ten percent of the population. And homosexuals are able to meet and mate and be quite selective about it too.

So there you go.

... Yes, but how many of those skeptics are intelligent human beings?

You will never find out unless you attempt to not only meet, but interact with them, instead of dismiss the entire human race out of hand.

He's got you there, dude.

Get out, live a little, meet people, etc. etc.

Or, if you're not going to do that, at least quit playing Quake 3play a real game instead, like Unreal Tournament or [flamebait]Unreal Tournament 2003[/flamebait].

Knock on enough doors and sooner or late you are bound to make a sale.

The law of averages can work in your favor. Honest.

With the type of girl you're looking for, if you say that in the correct tone of voice, you would probably get a date or (at least) a conversation.

*cocks an eyebrow*

You've got a bit to learn about smart, self-directed girls, buddy.

Default This too shall pass

DC,

You sound just like my husband, as he described himself at 17. He was a skeptic attending a private baptist school, highly intelligent, and convinced he would die a virgin. He held much contempt for the "popular crowd" at school, but had crushes on several of the girls.

When we met, he was convinced that I was unattainable and not interested. We worked together though, so over time we got to know each other. Honestly, I fell for him after about the first week.

We finally hooked up on a date, and have basically been together ever since. We'll celebrate our 20th next month.

Never say never.

I still think the likelihood is nil.
