And who are all those millions of Christians over the last 2000 years? For that matter who was Jesus Christ? Obviously there is somewhere there an authority which you claim for yourself which I simply do not see nor recognize. Creationists spend their time opposing evolution. They have no theory of their owm based on any sound research. In the past these same kind of people opposed astronomy and philology with the same kind of myopic and ignorant arguements. There is no basis for your comparison. |

Some fifty posts have already been written under this topic, and noone yet has offered to contribute to a project of reviewing Doherty's book (or website) with the methods of history. But I have not given up hope that there are some people who don't fully agree with Doherty's ideas and are willing to attempt to articulate their thoughts on these ideas in an intelligent way instead of constantly returning to that old hobbyhorse, the self-perpetuating consensus. If anyone is willing to contribute as little as two or three pages in review of Doherty's work, or if anyone would like to work in the capacity of proofreading the reviews of Jesus Myth issues made by others, please e-mail me (click the little e-mail button above this post to e-mail kirby@earthlink.net). People with any stance in relation to Jesus Myth theories are invited to offer to help.

"I had something to with you being banned from JM? That's one I haven't heard."
It was not intentional on your part. You took massive offence to a joke and it was used as a pretext to get rid of me. They are now lying about why I was banned. We all loose our temper from time to time and we all make mistakes. I actually assumed from your previous post that as you seemed to be denying the garbage claim, you might regret it as was on a bad tempered thread. You have now flown off the handle again but, heh, I did that yesterday over the JM moderators. The essay impressed my professors and you will need to do a bit more than quote Crossan p 149 to convince me that the methodologies it contains do not do their job when a lot of clever professionals (including Crossan in his other book) use them. I misunderstood CX for which I apologised and I am glad he has made his point clear. Yuri does seem to be making some headway with his view, but we will see how it goes. As for Catholic history, I think you are wrong and so far, most of my research has backed me up. As you admit, you hate the Church, and I am a member of it through choice rather than birth. That will cause trouble. I actually still like you and respect your passion, but then I never felt we would agree so have nothing to be disappointed about. Yours Bede |

It is unsurprising that most of your research on the Church has backed you up, since it is generally both slanted and cursory, in the rare event that it is actually on topic. Not once have you ever shown me in error on any topic involving the Church or claims I have made about it. Good luck trying. |
