Hi, again, Blond.... In one of your previous posts, you mentioned reading various threads. I just found one which I think you may find clarifying. (The title of the thread doesn't really give "newbies" like us a clue to the level of information about the basic assumptions of atheism which it contains.)

#1-My B-Day is shown on my profile. #2-I'm 15. #3-I'm sorry if my first post in the thread sounded insensitive. |

Actually, my faith disappeared when I took 2.5 years to read the bible from front to back, in the exact order it was prepared, and started seeing all the absurdities.
I also used study bibles and other things as I went along, and when I found that practically none of it is written until after the alleged events (with the exception of Revelation, which is a lunatic raving in my opinion), it began to dawn on me there was nothing supernatural behind it at all. The latest archaeological finds and documents from some of the OT periods in Egypt that were found just reinforced my lack of beliefs. |

blondegoddess, I just got around to reading all this. I can understand your concern about your husband's possible reaction. I was fortunate enough to have a slow deconversion, and I discussed my initial questions (which were just about some born-again evangelical doctrines) with my fiancee when they first came up, so my initial discussions with her about it were not threatening, and she could admit that they were legitimate questions. It also helped that she had a few questions of her own. I kept her up to date with my thoughts as my beliefs unravelled over the next nearly two years before I was out of religion altogether (during which we got married). Fortunately, she trusted me enough to know I was honest in my questioning, and honest enough herself to recognize that my questions were legitimate, and it went slowly enough so my progression out of religion was not frighteningly sudden. She believed that if God had answers then he would let us know, or that if he didn't, or didn't care, or maybe even wasn't there, then she didn't want to lose me for the sake of such a god. She soon followed me out of religion.
Which is a long way to say that, based on my experience, I'd suggest taking it slow with your husband. If you can hide it, it is probably a good idea not to let him know how far you have progressed until he can deal with facing the legitimacy of whatever your initial questions were, or some other more minor matters which could lay the foundation for the sort of growth you have managed. (And I do certainly think it is growth and not just change, although I once thought of deconversion as Radorth does). |
