I simple do not get it. I am experiencing total dj vu. This is exactly what happened to Bush Sr to a tee. This is how he lost reelection. If the war ended right before the election Bush Sr would have coasted to an easy win. His numbers (much like Dubyas numbers) were through the roof following the war.

The administration has got to know this. As dumb as I like to think they are they simple cannot be that dumb. They could have started the war with Iraq at any time. They didnt have to rush into it. So what is the catch? When will the other shoe fall? What the heck are they planning to ensure that Dubya gets reelected!?
I was one such person saying something very similar to this even before hostilities began. I couldn't believe that he thought he could succeed where Daddy had failed. And Daddy had broad domestic and foreign support for his war.

(Besides, how many threads can we point to here where Iraq-war-supporters scoffed at the idea of going to war again?)
Yeah, I don't think another conflict will help him any. Partly because he'll then be using that conflict to cover up the fact that he still won't have found any WMD in Iraq!

My prediction is that I will be truly amazed if Bush can manage to get himself reelected. I said it once hostilities were underway, and I'll say it again now, Bush will NOT be reelected!

Ronin, great post! You da MAN!

If starting another war is not an option for Bush to attain reelection, then he must pray that God or Allah directs another terrorist attack within the United States to further fuel his War Without End on Terrorism.

Scary tinfoil hat thought:

You know what would ensure four more years of Republican leadership? Right around this time next year, everyone's favorite Dubya is the victim of a 'terrorist sniper' or other such tragedy. The 'grief-stricken' nation would easily let President Cheney ride high into victory on a sympathy vote.

W wouldn't have to die, hell, he wouldn't even have to be hit. The fact that someone, especially someone on the left tried to kill him would be enough to give him the election.

If they can get the Republican Congress to pass Patriot II they can use that and the drug laws to disenfranchize enough voters (through felony convictions or revocation of US citizenship) to guarantee a Bush victory.

And then there is always the magical mystery electronic voting machines. Do they plan on bringing back exit polls on this next one?

Someone mentioned that there is only so much the American people can take. I disagree. I believe Bush could Nuke Paris today & a majority of the citizenry would stand for it, with a large minority 30% or so actually applauding it.

We live in sad days folks
