How Saddam reacts is immaterial if you listened closely to what Colin Powell said in a news briefing we will envade whether he's there or not so if your pride as a denizen of that region is not true you slip out and grin as the boys of military toys try out their missles in one hell of a gigantic public relations blunder.

Guerrilla warfare is soon to engulf Iraq.

But I personally would personnally lead an obviously futile suicidal attack the memory of which would plague US ambitions in that region for always.

My guess is that he's gone already. At some point the locals will realize what's happened and that will probably be the end of the war.

If I were to the Devils advocate (In reality I am, but only for my own country):

What I would have done for weeks and some what I could do still at the last 24 hours and after.
- I would have filled every ship and vessel on Tigris and Eufrat with oil (as someone said in another post).

- Every single oil-tower would have plastic bombs with radio-equipment (He bought trainloads of plastic-bomb material from Checkoslowakia some 10 years ago). Make special groups for this work and to see that everything is fulfilled.

- Make a terrorist-guard, maybe 1,000 men, 4-5 per group, give one of them the diamonds (Saddam bought recently uncut diamonds for some hundred millions USD) + money and the 3 - 4 other would just be watch-dogs. (Long story, well studied, and I am not telling You;. Just study how the communists cells were working in WWII.
Why uncut diamonds is also a long story.

- Give them instructions what to do and what not to do. Make them understand what is good propaganda and what is bad propaganda. All instructions printed, for studying and destoying after studying. Numbered copies collected after about 4 - 6 hours of studies and discussion.
- Let them out of country. (Saddam has some 2 billion USD himself + what is available from the state = so there is a million for every group)

Note If 10 % would come through with something, it would mean 100 strikes!
(The oath, hand on the book, the rest of the families well treaten at home = hostages. You know the stuff.)

- Another group with same resorces, whose orders would be to find the already ready groups, trained groups, give them the money; "the last blessing from saddam Hussein, with a ; please free our country". And naturally join these groups.

- Distribuate all the Anthrax or whatsoever to every single terrorist-organisation. They are more professionals, so the outcome-% would be bigger.

- Make a TV speech where I would tell Mr Bush where exactly the children and their mothers will be at the bombing (stadiums or some remote part of the city (which is about 1,5 times larger than New York).

- Then I would ask Mr Bush to give a signal when the mothers and the children should go to those places. (Winning thus in the propaganda-war, and see to it that there is some 300 - 500.000 kids remembering the bombings, but still alive.

- Give 1.000 instructors for the kids "When You are older, destroy anything with the name of Haliburton etc., when they are pumping our oil". Short schooling etc. (Not telling that there probably will not be any oil left when about 2.400 pumping-stations are on fire).

- Made as much as possible fake outposts. It is very depressing for USA, when the troops sees that everything that has been bombed was in vain. The soldiers will understand that the tanks are intact inside the city etc. The commander can't say: "Lets not go in there."
(Grozny in Chechenia a good example). Just Google for pictures.

- Tell Bush that when his planes are changing frequenzy, the oil-tower on that frequency will blow up, the oil-tower giving "nice greetings" to Haliburton.

When I hear that the American tanks are coming through the border:
- blow the dams, drive the ships agains the bridges put fire on everything.

- Phone Bush and tell that he has just won the next election!
If there is a telephone available.

- When the troops would be nearer the towns, send all the women and children about 1,5 million people from Baghdad toward the troops asking for food and water.
Will look nice on TV.
Even FOX-news would say: "Holy shit!"

All together, from different towns, there would be some 10 million woman and children and pensioneers to look after.

Men and unmarried women would stay. Armed.

- If You think that they women and children would smile and say; "Thank You for the water", giving the soldier a rose, "go now and kill my father, my brothers and sisters and my husband and I will be ever so happy", I think You have missed the point.

The solidiers would check that the 1,2 million women does not have granates hidden in their clothes, would also look nice on TV.
It would take a week or so.

Some hundred solidiers would be knifed etc. The suicide-bombers would have a perfect cover the first 2 - 5 hours. i think that would be enough.
And TV would keep rolling.

Then, when USA would be attacking, begin the war, from the towns.
Refining oil is the main business of Baghdad, if You didn't know.

There is much speaking now that the soldiers are not good.
Well, now they are defending their own country.
In Grozny they were not even trained solidiers, or some was.

There is a half of dozen other things You could/can do.
- How to survive in the marsh etc. (A good Russian book. I recommend.)
But these studies are more related to my own country, Finland, who has always lied next to a superious power.
Yes, first we were under the Swedish king for 800 years, then under the tzar for 110 years, and finally got our freedom 1917.

If the Iraqian are not defending their country, maybe they need some hundred years of foreign rule?

The essence is: Easy to come in, very costing to be there.
That breaks whatever super-power.
There is many reasons why Stalin never occupied Finland, when he easily could have done it 1944, but he knew how we are, quite crazy, so why would he had taken some problems on his shoulders?
He had to hurry to Berlin, but that is not the whole truth.

And every super-power has a limit, how much it can take. I think that it is about 300 - 700.000 dead, solidiers and civilians.

Not so much if You compare with 500.000 Iraqi children dead because of the embargo.

The bad thing is, that now when Bush put it rolling, there is no way to dam the world-wide terrorism. Maybe by leaving all Arabic countries.

Btw. How many times did Bush yesterday say in his speech to the Iraqi people: "Do not put the oil-wells on fire!"?

Have a nice day, the war is postponed for 48 hours.

Why should he bother leaving?

He can die in the midst of a war, going out as a hero. Or he can leave and wait to be assinated (I find it likely Bush would do this). It is not a matter of "if" he is going to be killed by the US, but "how".

I'd humbly step down. In my farewell address, I'd state that I'm doing this to save the Iraqi people. That in the face of overwhelming military might, I have no choice but cede power. and turn control of the country over to....FRANCE!

That'd piss off the Bush administration something fierce!

It's one of my wishes. I wonder just what would happen if Saddam voluntarily stepped down only after inviting the UN or perhaps Russia/France to send in peacekeepers until a transitional government is stabilized. Perhaps even a treaty specifying that the US should not get involved in the new Iraq in the interests of stability in the region.

No more Saddam. Disarmament is a non-issue. Iraqi people are on the way towards democracy.

I wonder what the New American Century zealots would do with that?

Well apparently he has converted a lot of his wealth into diamonds... I'd take them and flee... my Mum said she heard that he might have left months ago and his 2 (or 3?) "doubles" are pretending to be him. I'd leave one of the doubles in charge of one part of the country and another one in another part of the country. They can do what they like. Well I'd also have some of the republic guard making sure the "doubles" didn't run away. The most brainwashed followers would ultimately be in charge. I'd get the planes and tanks to go on a suicide mission and kill the kurds - that's about the best they could do - they probably wouldn't make it to Israel.

ROFLMAO! That's f'n funny. And not a bad idea either.

If I were Saddam, I'd be so ashamed for the amount of lives I've taken that I'd tell my army to surrender and go to a popular street in Baghdad with my sons and have several of my generals strip me naked and string me upside down by my ankles and let the populace take me out Benito style.

If I were Saddam, I'd be laughing my ass off from whatever hole outside of Iraq I was sitting in. And I'd laugh even harder when all the faked footage of American GIs slaughtering babies starts airing on Al Jazeera.

I'd donate all the anthrax, botulinin, enriched uranium, etc. that I'd smuggled out in the last few months to Al Quaeda and anybody else who wanted a pile of the stuff.

Then, I'd use all the diamonds, cash, etc. I'd smuggled out to support the ongoing dismantling of the Constitution. I'd also promote reality tv, Fox news, talk radio, and education 'reform' to make sure Americans stay good and stupid.
