Talking The Eminem Thread

So, what do all you infidels think?

Love him? Hate him? Indifferent?

While I personally sometimes get annoyed with his "posturing" and gangsta-speak (in interviews etc.), I think he is quite talented. He has a way with words and I enjoy his music (as I clean my house today I am listening to The Eminem Show , cranked up on the surround sound. I'm sure my neighbor loves me... actually I think he likes it even though he's a hippy I saw him groovin' through the fence to it one time...

Anyway, lay it on me!

(Also despite his silly way of dressing I think he's kinda cute. So sue me )

I don't particularly like or hate Eminem. He's not my favorite rap artist ever, but I do think he's got a good amount of talent.

To be honest I find his posturing a little ridiculous, but then, I feel that way about a lot of musicians (some of whom I like very much).

Usually when I see him in interviews he comes off as a clever 15 year old class clown who ultimately has nothing worthwhile to say...and who obviously isn't 15 anymore...but a little while ago I saw an interview with him in which he seemed pretty intelligent, knowledgeable about world events, and he even quoted Bad Religion. Needless to say, I was surprised. I suppose it takes some intelligence to freestyle well. His music is alright for mainstream hip pop...it does irritate me how the message of every one of his recent songs that I've heard (except Lose Yourself) seems to boil down to "I didn't mean it literally when I said I wanted to rape my mother and kill people, jeez, calm down, this is all for show." Yah, I get it. Everybody with half a brain got that. Now he ought to try talking about something worthwhile, I know he's capable of it.

I'm glad he's out there, pissing people off, making sure freedom of speech still means something. And I like his sound.

I generally like him. Some people think he tries to be shocking for the sake of being shocking, but I'll be damned if he doesn't have something to say every once in awhile. He seems to be pretty honest too, such as when he says he raps to piss people off, or when he talks about his personal problems. And while I haven't seen 8 Mile, I was impressed that he didn't go the route most rappers and singers go when they try and act, making some dumbed down comedy or action movie. He actually had people with talent to make the movie, so at he at least gives the impression that he was actually trying.

I like his music. People should differentiate his songs from his person.

I dislike rap and I pretty much dislike Eminem as a person, but his songs are so damned catchy.

I loathe him. As much as I loathe Marilyn Manson

He sucks, he is a lame poser and inspired a whole generation of other lame posers. His music is not good, it's not even decent. Sure, it's catchy, but pop is designed to be catchy. Good hook != good song. Support underground hip hop (rap is meant to be a musical expression of the underground hip hop culture anyway, and pop rap is thus just as oxymoronic as pop punk), not idiotic mainstream shock artists.
