Wouldn't it be telling if through this faith-based initiative that American Islamic groups get some of this money only to be shut down or investigated later by the Government as channeling money to terrorist organizations? I'm not saying that all Islamic charity organizations fund terrorist organizations, but how would the government, before handing out these funds, be sure it doesn't go to some of these groups that do or would help fund terrorism?

With Bush's help, you can leap pesky church-state divide

Quote:
. . . The federal government has a handy brochure to answer any questions your faith-based organization might have.

It's called "Guidance to Faith-Based and Community Organizations on Partnering with the Federal Government," or GTFBACOOPWTFG for short.

You might want to get a bunch of copies and put them in your pew racks, next to your Bibles and hymnals.

These handy government brochures, written in a language akin to English, let your congregation know how it can serve God and mammon.

Some excerpts:

"The United States Supreme Court has ruled that faith-based organizations may not use direct government support to support 'inherently religious' activities."

See, it's a lot like English.

"Don't be put off by the term 'inherently religious' - it's simply a phrase that has been used by the courts in church-state cases."

Pay no attention to the man behind the black robe.

Angry 30 million to "level the playing field" for religous groups

30 Million dollar grant...

Quote:
"Today, we are making good on President Bush's commitment to give faith- and community-based organizations the same opportunities to receive federal assistance that larger private organizations have," Secretary Thompson said. "For years, grassroots organizations have helped thousands of Americans in need, often on shoestring budgets and with little assistance from the federal government. Under the President's leadership, that assistance is finally beginning."

Seriously thinking of moving to Canada.

That forum is a hoot, in a scary way. See Rev.

I need help. Last year the congregation that I am serving in LA bought property next to its church to build a parking lot but in the mean time it has maintained the building and is providing low income housing. The county assessor claims that because we are getting income from the housing that it is a business and not a religious activity, even though the income is used to maintain the building as to support the churches activities. Therefore we are paying very high property and business taxes. The question is isn't there a way the this can be a religious activity of the church just like when congreations provided senior husing and program? If so what does this church need to do? It is a 503C(3) religious non-profit.

Like a previous poster said, this will be a lawyer's field day. Damn that assessor for interfering with the Lord's desire to pave paradise and put up a parking lot (not to mention evicting those low income rentors....)
