Default Anyone play golf?

I used to caddy when I was a kid at the best golf course in Melbourne, Metropolitan Golf Club. Caddys could play the course and by the time I was 15 I could get around in par. Nowadays I play about once every 2 years and would probably play off a handicap of about 10.

I had a full set of Pings which I hocked about 18 months ago because I needed cash to buy cigarettes and beer. So when I was asked to play last week I didn't have any equipment.

I rocked up at the course and bought 4 clubs, a glove and 4 Titleist 90 compression balls at the pro shop. I didn't buy cigarettes because I quit after reading Alan Carr's book.

I bought a driving iron, a 6 iron, a wedge and a putter. The driving iron has a long shaft, extra weight behind the clubface and looks like it has the loft of about a 3 wood. I was getting about 240 metres off the tee and was able to use it off the fairway. I used it twice for shots down to about 160 metres, once off the grass and once off the tee.

The six iron was good for anything between about 120 and 160 metres. And I used it three times for chipping.

The wedge I used about ten times. Twice to reach a short par three, twice out of a bunker and the rest of the time to pitch to short par fours, long par fives or missed greens.

The putter was fantastic. It cost ten bucks. I took 26 putts over 18 holes. I holed out out of a bunker, chipped in once, and holed two putts of about ten metres.

I got round in 64, 6 under par, with four clubs. I didn't even have a bag until I bought tiny little one on the way out.

Wink

I've played quite a few games of golf, but my scores would look better if I was playing cricket...

I hate you.

I play a few times a year. I usually hit in the high 90's. Usually I put together a string of 4-5 good holes (bogeys or pars) but most of the time I end up struggling with one type of shot. I do enjoy playing, though.

I played minature golf once.

It's a big social deal in my office, but I'm not part of the social scene here.

Good one Daisy. I'm saddened by the news that you are not part of the office scene, but then that might not be a bad thing. I'm tickled though by the thought of office workers socializing by playing miniature golf.

Seriously now, what I was getting at with my OP is that golf is not really that hard. People, even golfers, are brainwashed into thinking that it is.

Default is golf a conspiracy?

I say golf is nothing but an appropriate end to a pathetic life chasing the elitist ideal. The best land and all the amenities are provided for the mindless consumer to spend some time communing with nature and actually enjoying your natural place. This is why golf is so peaceful .Throw in our heightened sense of aggression,-winning at all cost- and clubs usually fly. This doesn't allow these clubs to be usable for any other purpose.
You suck up huge quantities of water causing problems to the aquifer (sinkholes swallowing houses) which took millions of years to filter down, take away arable land that could be used for parks, homes and food gardens,- huge quantities of pesticides and fertilizers to keep it looking green. ETC..
DAISY has the right idea . All golf should be miniature golf and played on astroturf in malls, so we can eliminate your dependance on nature to get back to reality.

Obviously you know nothing of the game. There is no one to "win against" but yourself.
