I'm new here. I don't know what to expect. I like to debate. I can be vulnerable but cross me and look out.

I love politics and religion. As the third of four children of a Methodist Preacher and his choir director wife we were often encouraged to keep opinions under wraps except in safety of home or with other clerical families.

By now I imagine some are wondering what I am. I work for the government. Our family is a charter member of the Clinton Presidential Center and I am looking forward to going to the gala at the opening in Little Rock in November, 2004. I can't decide whether or not to wear a blue dress, but maybe I can get fondled by "The Big Creep" himself. I'm strongly pro-choice though I personally considered and rejected abortion for myself the two times I became pregnant.

Like my parents I'm a liberal Christian though it is obvious our institutions are being challenged on one side by secularism and on the other by fundamentalism. I consider the latter the greater threat by far.

My Dad and I disagree on Bush's War and the death penalty. I'm for both and he's against both. I like Rap and Rock the best and he likes Outlaw Country. We both read a lot of Robert Heinlein and Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

I might add more but that's enough for now.

Hi Lynn,

Are you actually from a prairie in Texas, or is it a literary reference?

It sounds like you'll especially be interested in our Political Discussions and General Religious Discussions fora. Hope you enjoy your stay!

The region around Fort Worth is sometimes called the Grand Prairie after a town here in the suburbs next to where we live now, where I once lived. The land is flat and often used for cotton and corn.

In Joel Garreau's The Nine Nations of North America Texas is included in three of his regions: MexAmerica, Dixie, and the Breadbasket. We live in the third one, which goes from here north to the Canadian prairie provinces and from central Missouri on the east to Eastern Colorado on the west.

Well howdy, Lynn.
You know that since you've come in here, you can never go back to the choir. Consortin' with Satan will make your throat scratchy and rough and your high notes won't be as crisp as they used to.
Sorry.
Oh yeah, you may have a little discomfort in the back of your head. That's just your mind expanding. Nothing to be alarmed about. The discomfort will pass momentarily.

Wow! I love your name and the quote. I haven't been in choir since high school myself, and I consider fundamentalists more dangerous than any mythological demons.

Are you familiar with Humanist Manifesto II? My Dad's a signer of it, as are a lot of liberal clergy.
