You've all forgotten my two favourite comedies of all time:

* Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke. The fact that it was a stoner comedy that you didn't ened to be stoned to 'get' means it is automatically enjoyable. Watching it stoned must be something different. All their movies are pretty decent and worthwhile, but Up In Smoke was executed the best. A result of years of live shows, records and tapes. Has spawned a whole genre of Jay and Silent Bobs, but reamins the best of its kind - none of this generation of stoner comedies will outlast Cheech and Chong. Biodome, for example, was made in 1996 and looks it.

* Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times. Still significant today, despite being made many moons ago. This is my favourite portrayl of Charlie Chaplin's tramp character as it was meant to be because his goals were so clearly defined and he gave himself an enormous amount of space and attention to detail.

Both classics of comedy and I can't believe nobody has mentioned them yet.

There's Something About Mary is the funniest movie in recent years. If you disagree, well you're just wrong . My wife and I saw it about six times at the theaters, partly just to watch the audience's reaction to some of the scenes. The timing of the comedy in it was reminiscent of the Marx brothers and the movie used shock value to enhance the comedy, not as a substitute for it, as is the case with most Mary-wannabes.

Other hilarious movies: the three main Python movies, Blazing Saddles, Airplane, I'm Gonna Get You Sucka and South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark

Put me down for Airplane! as well.
Also, the Naked Gun spoofs crack me up every time I see them.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I enjoy watching the crappy 50's and 60's movies on the sci-fi channel and just laughing at how incredibly bad they are. Great stuff.

We've moved on so far since then...

Some Like It Hot , definitely. If you ever get the chance to see this in the theatre, go. A movie this good is even better when you're surrounded by other people enjoying it.

Le dner de cons is a great farce. A group of people have a monthly "idiot dinner" where they bring along the most stupid and boring person they can find. It all, of course, backfires.

And I almost died laughing when I saw Independence Day.

Many hilarious movies already mentioned. Airplane is one of the rare movies that I can laugh at every time I watch it. I'll throw out a few more (some of them a bit in the "black comedy" category):

The Princess Bride
A Christmas Story
The Producers (featuring a Broadway Musical titled "Springtime For Hitler")
M*A*S*H
Bringing Up Baby
Being There
Groundhog Day
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World
Harold and Maude
The Jerk
Fargo

And I'm amazed no one's mentioned:

Raising Arizona
