Dating Jericho or Catal Huyuk
Where might I find on-line references corroborating the dates assigned to early Pre-Pottery Neolihic (Natufian) sites (e.g., Jericho) or sites such as Catal Huyuk?

The best source of information on �atalh�y�k is the <a href="http://catal.arch.cam.ac.uk/" target="_blank">�atalh�y�k Excavations website</a>. There is a report on <a href="http://catal.arch.cam.ac.uk/catal/Newsletter8/radiocarbon01.html" target="_blank">radiocarbon dating results</a> in <a href="http://catal.arch.cam.ac.uk/catal/Newsletter8/news8.html" target="_blank">newsletter 8</a> (December 2001). The earliest dates appear to be about 7500 calibrated years BC, or about 9500 years ago.
I can find no direct reference to the oldest dates for Jericho (Tell Es-sultan), but I did find one reoprt of radiocarbon dates about 3350 years before present (Tell es-Sultan (Jericho): Radiocarbon results of short-lived cereal and multiyear charcoal samples from the end of the Middle Bronze Age; H.J. Bruins & J. VanDerPlicht, Radiocarbon 37(2): 213-220, 1995). But I suspect there are older dates out there somewhere. |

I've found many references to AMS radiocarbon dates but little suggesting how these dates are corroborated. My search efforts sofar have been focused on the sites; maybe I should simply start reading up on dating methods. |
