From reading tracts and booklets from the JWs, I noticed that they seem to be using a different version of the bible from what I'm used to. I was tempted back then (when I was a Christian) to acquire their bible to compare it with the NIV, which was my personal choice. Most Christian tracts I've read use either the KJV or the NIV, with a few using the Good News Bible. I haven't seen the The Living Bible (I think) yet.
So my question is, aside from the JWs, are there any bible versions that are used by one denomination almost exclusively? A Mormon Bible perhaps (not the Book of Mormons)? A bible for Seventh Day Adventists (not a lot of them here in Manila so I'm not sure)? And are these versions too sectarian to be useful or accurate? I know that Mainline Christians use the NIV (since I was raised a moderate Methodist) while the Fundamentalists prefer the KJV, though some are starting to use the NIV as well. Catholics use either the Douay Rheims version or the NAB (I hear's there a Catholic Jerusalem bible, though I haven't read it yet). And there's always the Tagalog version (our official language) used pretty much by anybody. |

Yes, its out. There is a limerick version too. And one in Scots.
As you're in London, you can buy a copy either at Wesley Owen (sort-of behind John Lewis on Oxford Street, go to the back of the shop where the Bibles are) or at the Borders bookshop on Oxford Street (the one on Charing Cross Road is not nearly so good) towards the Tottenham Court Road end, its upstairs. I've definitely seen a copy in Wesley Owen, Borders should have it, if not try Foyles --Egoinos-- |

What about NET
Has anybody reviewed the New English Translation? It is available on the net at http://netbible.org/netbible/index.htm
One of its claims to fame, as I understand it, is that the translation was posted on the internet during the process of translation and opened to critique. I am not advocating it, but I am interested in hearing any comments on it. Regards, Finch |
