Prior restraint. Bad stuff.
My BF went to Oklahoma State in the 60s. The school invited Thomas Altheizer to speak on "The Death of God". The prez of the school (a state school) prohibited it and said he had "a constituency to answer to". So they had more publicity, had it at the Catholic Student Union, and more people showed up. This was also when the Berrigan Brothers were protesting the Vietnam war. One of the Berrigans told this story: He was somewhere in Africa as a missionary. He explained in great detail who Jesus was, the miracles he did, etc. etc. Then after he spoke, one of them said "Yes, we know that already. He lived among us." |
