Hey cydonia! I have gotten that argument several times as well. It's basically a rewording of "God works in mysterious ways".

One that I especially dislike is "well, at least I planted a seed". I was talking to one fellow about God. I mostly listened, but when he stopped yapping I would refute some of his main points. He would answer them with more Bible quotes and some preaching. When he got done with all that, I asked how I could trust the Bible. He used the usual Bible quotes, so I mentioned that you couldn't prove the Bible with the Bible. The conversation drifted to something else after all that. As I was getting ready to leave, he said that God brought him to me so that he could plant a seed. He told me that when the seed takes root I can go to his church. <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" />

Oh well, so it goes. At least I planted the seed of reason.

Ack!

Terms I hate. "Worldview" and "Humanism". Oh and being told that I "hate the bible".

They always make it sound like we are for self-preservation and nothing else.

On one board, a new christian asked what they could do to become more christian.

Everyone suggested reading the bible, listening to christian radio, and watching christian tv.

I suggested ignoring the bible and help the needy. I was scolded for that. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Yes Jimmy, it is them. I have some great tales of confrontation. Some of my faves are The Preacher Incident, The Great Mormon Missionary Adventure, and The Brother-in-Law Battle Royale.

Ugh, I dislike that too. People don't tell me that I hate God or the Bible very often, but on occasion they do. It bothers me that they think they know more about what I like and dislike than me. Some refuse to listen to my opinions about God or the Bible, and opt to keep their preconceived opinions instead of actually learning about a different worldview.

...a sudden switch to...
"I don't have time to look it up now, I have better things to do!"

The same line often gets thrown back at me when I ask for references from the peer-reviewed scientific literature fom people pushing pseudoscience.
