Hey...I just caught sight of this thread.

I was drawn here by another internet infidel as well (Thanks again, Rhea!)...oddly enough after a good kick from the religious rantings of none other than Kathleen Parker.

This has been a really cool thread to read.

The good Reverend ...seems like he's been busy elsewhere.

Some time after my deconversion. I did a search for atheist websites and here I am. Shocking, ain't it?

The Final Fantasy Tactics message board at GameFAQs was my home for a good while, as most members of the community for THAT game are every bit as intelligent as you people are.

Unfortunately, videogame discussion can only go so far, and eventually I needed something deeper between schoolmates who focused far too much on grades and/or pop culture for intelligent conversation and an MMORPG community that, while great and tolerant, just didn't have enough deep discussion for my tastes. One day I decided to finally see what http://xxx.infidels.org/~meta/getalife/ (from the sig of a user named "Notti") led to. I was very intrigued by the arguments for evolution of complex structures and clicked on the link to this wonderful place.

The Good:
Finally! Logic! Freethought! Intelligent debate!:notworthy
Also, being a (Zen) Buddhist, I had given the benefit of the doubt to the Bible. Coming here, I found more than enough arguments to realize that the Bible is no more enlightening or inspiring than any other book, Gods or no, and that it actually reflects some of the worst attitudes Christian fundies have. The Library provided plenty of documents to keep me busy for a good amount of time, but even it could not keep me from visiting the forums with all of you wonderful people.

The Bad:
You people focus far too much on Christianity! Where are the arguments against the Qu'ran? Where are the evaluations of eastern philosophy?
*looks at the 'Non-Abrahamic Religion and Philosophy' board*
Oh. Right. But! Where are the Agora/Kiosk/Library articles covering these topics?
"Why don't you provide some?"
I don't know enough about Buddhism, damn it! Initially upon coming here, I rejected it along the same level as Christianity, but then one of the topics here(it discussed the validity of either karma or reincarnation) made me realize that I had taken a very narrow view of it.
Besides that, you people focus far too much on disproving gods! Aren't there better things to debate?
*gets assaulted by a mob of bible-thumpers*
Oh. That's why.
Also, I wish I could post more, but I seem to be resigned to being a lurker at the moment.

Like some, I did a google (or was it yahoo) search for atheist sites. I found American Atheists, and this one. That was in 1997.

I lurked for years here, reading articles and not posting on the board, then I joined the IIDB in 2001.

I found this place when I browsed for information about creationism debates. The forum members were/are very helpful, so I desided to stay and learn.
I could say that there are only 2 forums where I post regularly.
