Then I saw this on the local news:

I don't really care what causes it but as far as I'm concerned, it's a good thing when they catch anyone who exploits children sexually and put that person where they cannot do so any longer.

I agree, Helen! It is the job of adults to preserve the innocence of children for as long as possible.

I don't know that I'd wholeheartedly agree here.... I don't think we do our children any favors by sheltering them from the world in the name of some abstract 'innocence.'

However, exploitation of children by more experienced and manipulative adults is abominable. It's a pretty base level of cowardice.... and generally a sign of someone who is so poorly developed that they can't handle normal adult interactions.

Having said that, I do not wish to preserve my child's innocence for a long time. I wish to see my children grow up and learn that though men are sometimes good, they can also be evil at times.
