Default doesnt it piss you off

when people tell you that you arent really an atheist, that you really beleive in god? they say you are just trying to rebel or that you are just angry at god.

and wtf is up when people tell me "you were baptised catholic, you are catholic, you beleive in god". this is REALLY starting to piss me off, i hear it every day.

i guess waht i am asking is, how do i go about renouncing my faith officially, or getting excomunicated?

Those people are very damned annoying.
Follow the directions on this page, and when you get your letter of excommunication back you can say "f off I've got a ticket to HELL!"

If I may be candid, perhaps you are spending too much time with idiots. Or maybe you speak too freely with them.

If you wish, you can turn the matter on its head, so to speak, and tell them that they don't really believe in God. After all, if they did, they would not be doing all of the things they do; they would actually do as God wishes, even when no one is looking. And you may ask them if they want to be dead (make sure you don't ask them the different question, "Do you want to kill yourself?"). If they don't want to be dead, then either they don't believe in heaven, a place of perfect bliss, or they don't really believe that they are going there. There are very few people who really believe what they claim to believe. They simply assume that you are like them.

I have also been meaning to get excommunicated. Hopefully both of us will be successful in our attempts, pariahSS.

Oh, and if you need an example of heresy, missus_gumby has a nice example on his site. (In his letter to Jamey, about 2/3 of the way down.)

Thanks for the information, faust.

Heh. I get this a lot, as does a friend of mine (who rarely posts here as Frest.) Difference is, we get this from a mutual Jewish friend who's just ribbing us.

If I ever "came out" to my mother, I suspect that I'd get this treatment very quickly, but serious as well.

Oh, you mean one of these conversations:

Me"I don't believe in god"
Other person "Well, I don't think anyone can say they don't believe in god"
Me "I don't believe in god"
Other person "I don't think anyone can really say they don't believe in god"
Me "I just said it. Want me to say it again? I don't believe in god"
Other person "I heard you, but I don't think anyone can really say they don't believe in god. Not mean it"
Me "I mean it."
Other person "No you don't"
Me "Yes I do"
Other person "No you don't. Not really."

I've had those conversations. My tactic is to commend them on their fine mind-reading skills, suggest they should exploit them for commercial advantage, and leave. They are working up to witnessing anyway, and I don't want to be there for that.

Trying to tell other people what they think is rude, IMHO. I don't think anyone likes being on the receiving end.

me "great logic dipshit"
them "you are the catholic poster boy"
me "yeah thats right"
them "whatever. u are christian"
me "uh huh...go fuck urself"
them "u are just rebelling"
me "uh huh...go fuck urself"

WTF?! arent u supposed to have faith in god after u read the bible, not just have faith that the bible is everything people say it is? (who havent read it eitther....)

According to this story http://www.sfbayguardian.com/37/07/n...unication.html
the Catholic church doesn't give excommunication out easily. An openly gay man in SF tried...here's part of the article:

Quote:
...in his note to Levada, Vargas makes his position pretty clear:

"I hereby renounce all the trappings of religion.

"I condemn as monstrous the idea of original sin, and renounce any baptism done on my behalf to wash it away.

"I do not believe that praying is anything more than talking to oneself and will not make believe that it is.

"As an ethical person who cherishes human life," he adds, "I find the Catholic Church's history to be grossly saturated with the blood of millions of innocents."

But the archbishop doesn't find that quite sacrilegious enough. "It would not be appropriate to use the term 'excommunicate' in your case," states an Aug. 2 note to Vargas from Monsignor Thomas S. Merson, secretary to Levada.

All of which raises an interesting question: what, exactly, does a person have to do to get kicked out of the Catholic Church these days?
