So Zero Angel, now that you have told us what you like and other people hate...

Actually much of what you posted would clear a floor if I was the only one on it thats for sure.

How about:

Once upon the Cross - Deicide

I kind of like it. Don't think many others do.

Al Jolson. I have to be careful to remember never to bring Al Jolson CDs to listen to at work. I think this is another Slim Whitman thing. I don't so much enjoy it for any real musical value, but for the sheer over-the-topness of it. He actually pretends to CRY or something during songs like Mammy and Danny Boy, making his voice all wobbly. It sort of reminds me of The Cramps' "Lonesome Town," with the melodramatic choking and sobbing and all, with the exception that I think Jolson was serious.

What a coincidence., I have a CD of music I made for my kids and the first song on it is Al Jolson singing "Red red robin". In fact, I played it earlier tonight(!) & thought about sending it to a friend. I like it quite a bit and sing along. Havne't heard much of his other stuff though.

On the oriiginal topic, I like some of the old Motorhead. Lemmy's voice will clear most any room.

Speaking of The Cramps, every time I've ever put "She Said" on my stereo people have said, what the f*** is that?

She said...

She said...

Woo, ee, ah, ah!

Hey Creed is alright. Their guitar-work is pretty excellent, and I'm one of the few people that does not have their head burst into flames when hearing Scott Strapp's voice.

Hip-hop
Won't necessarily clear a room. Cheesy R&B/rap/hip hop cross-overs are "in" now and excessively shitty rap-rock bands are usually what passes for "rock" these days. Gee it takes a load of talent to rip off a hip-hop drum-and-bass beat then play powerchords over that. When these genres are done well, however, they are done exceptionally. Good rap (Public Enemy, Dead Prez)/hip hop (old Outkast)/r&b (Bone Thugz)/rap-rock (try System of a Down/RZA - Shame) is not found on the pop charts.

Nu-metal
What's wrong with "new metal", precisely? As for the genre there are some extremely talented, and yet musically under-appreciated (mostly because of snobby elitists that think metal attained perfection with "Iron Man", or metal euro-trash that think if something's from Scandanavia it must be a trillion times better than the "American dregs" ) bands, such as Factory 81, Mudvayne, some Manson (Coma White, Sweet Dreams, etc.), Spineshank, System of a Down (listen to Innervision and tell me it's not genius), older StainD, Stone Sour and Nothingface.

Country
Agree. Nothing sucks like country.

But... but... Propaghandi is awesome.

All of these come close to country in suckiness, but never quite reach it.

Linkin Park
Pfft. Listen to Krwlng (featuring Aaron Lewis) from the Reanimation album. Not that I particularly like Linkin Park (actually I think most of their stuff sucks ass), but that particular song is exceptional. I even picked it up on guitar when most of it is keyboard/synthesizer.

Now excuse me whilst I \m/ \m/ to some nu-metal: Factory 81 - Peace Officer.
