Default People-Powered Howard & Top Secret Plans

Howard Dean and Grassroots are beginning to become synonymous these days.
Supporters for Dean raised, in less than 4 days ,$508,640.31 through over 9,000 contributions. (that was over 8,000 individuals, apparently many were so inspired they gave 2 or 3 or more donations throughout the weekend)

Even Conservative Bob Novak was exclaiming on CNN today that Howard Dean is the Democratic front runner.

The money that went over the goal of $250,000 goal will be used for some "Top Secret" Dean campaign initiative. Not sure what that will be.

That's $258,64.21 for that project.

Its touted to "surprise everyone".

Hmmmmm, any guesses on what this might be?

It may be fun to speculate, even with some humorous proposals?

Perhaps they will use the money to start a Recall of George Bush effort? hmmmm. nooooo.

Maybe they will rent out a huge stadium to have a concert series for Dean....... DeanStock? hmmmm, I can see the thousands of lighters lit now...... well probably not.

Will Dean use it to travel to Iraq to hunt down Saddam Hussein himself, and if he found him could he use the 25 million dollar reward for his campaign?

Then it would be off to China to find Usama Bin Laden and collect that reward too? (An Afghan-born and raised political consultant friend of mine feels that Usama is hiding out with the Muslims in a remote part of China due to that is one place USA wouldn't dare invading to look for him).

.

I'm patient, I can wait for the unveiling of this now secret project.
Others aren't so patient and the suspense is killing them.

If you want to be the first to know about this plan keep checking
this site where the Dean for America campaign will eventually announce it:
http://blogforamerica.com

Kudos for the PEOPLE that want to take our country back for the great success of the latest Dean online fundraiser.

One last guess....maybe they will spend the money on dropping leaflets about Dean from helicopters over towns that have high numbers of undecided voters.....(a la leafleting style US military did in Iraq).

OK that wouldn't fly either. Talk about polluting....

That was supposed to be my last but perhaps Dean will take a trip to Iraq himself to check out the situation in Iraq or maybe he will put as a down payment on a SuperBowl Sunday ad to air right before some of the primaries!????

What's YOUR guess?

He'll use the money for an ad during the next SuperBowl.

(He'll prolly have to do a couple more 'secret' fundraisers, tho, to get the $1 million (?) for an ad during the game).

. . .

What's YOUR guess?
It could be something even more grassroots.

I'm just musing, but if word "got out' that a sizeable number of atheists support Dean, I can imagine the GOP using that against him in an attack ad. "Dean supports Atheists, but Bush supports God".

Default irony

Ironic that you should post about the Dean Corps thing
because I actually posted in April to the National Dean Network an idea
with the subject line Charity Work for Dean.
Then in May I got my local Dean Group to start doing community service work and near the end of May posted on the Dean Meetup agenda suggestions "Plan One Community service event per month to raise Dean's profile"

(I'm not in maryland anymore FYI)
The agenda item I posted at end of May finally made it to the top of the Agenda for the July 2nd meetups so went out in an email to every Dean Meetup around the nation to be on the agenda.
(plus was viewable as a suggested agenda item since May)

I also submitted numerous emails about this idea on the Dean Coordinators Council since Late May.

We'd been discussing it heavily over there. Most were supportive of this community service idea but there were a couple people bashing it.

Then low and behold we got wind on or After the July 2nd meetup that they had just started Dean Corps out in Iowa.

I don't have any idea if whomever started the effort up in Iowa had seen my posts on NDN in April or on the Dean Meetup suggested agenda ideas in May or even on DCC so I'm not sure if what they are doing in Iowa had anything to do with what we'd been doing at our Dean chapter since May.

We did a roadside clean up in May. Volunteered to be parade marshalls in June, volunteered as clean up workers at Juneteenth African American festival and now we have a Creek/River clean up scheduled. We are planning to help at a soup kitchen in the winter.

Where I came up with my version of the idea was after getting an email reminder from SVDC (single volunteers of Wash DC, also there are chapters in other cities). I had volunteered with them back February at the National Zoo.

They have single people get together via community service events which are followed by a "social".

SO after getting a reminder from them I thought that community service done BY Dean supporters would be great outreach and do good for the community at the same time.

I'm so glad that people are doing it.

You can read about these efforts at my notebook:
http://dean2004.meetup.com/notebook/241
although I haven't updated it recently as I am getting ready to move again. Maybe this time to NH or back to DC area? Not sure.

I don't THINK this is going to be Dean's Top Secret thing because
they have already gone public with Dean Corps and like I've said we've been discussing this community service stuff all over the Dean networking groups since April so it wouldn't "surprise everbody".

We shall see though.

Default Great minds think alike

just as I was typing my last message, someone on one of the Dean Blogs typed a very similar idea about community service efforts.

I suppose great minds think alike! LOL!

Well here is a link to that organization that was the source of inspiration for my ideas:

http://www.singlevolunteers.org/

Check to see if there is a chapter in YOUR city.

The events are fun alternatives to other singles events.

I will admit though that I thought that I'd meet a lot of wildlife and animal aficinados at the Zoo volunteer event. Instead I there were guys that were afraid of the snakes and most were complaining about the smell of the Ape House. Definitely not your "outdoor" types like I had hoped. Oh well.

I really don't think there's very many atheist Republicans. About as many as there are black Republicans. Then again most of the jackass rock radio listening 30 year olds like my uncle Skip aren't really religious, they just fake it to have a big dick attitude.

I disagree. I think there are lots of atheist Republicans, but like Napoleon they recognize the value of religion as a tool to manipulate the lower classes so they pretend to be religious.

"I dont want to listen to the fundamentalist preachers anymore. ..."

Heh. Good for him.

I want to listen to the fundamentalist preachers sometimes, they're hilarious and all, but not when they're standing at a fucking podium in the Rose Garden, or on the floor of the United States Senate.
