I agree with cf. Louis Booth once got me into a PM debate. What a waste of time! It doesn't matter how logical your argument; he will simply derail the conversation by going off on something trivial and refuse to acknowledge the validity of your statements. I will just ignore Outspoken from now on. cartman |

Hey Prax,
Yeah, don't waste your time trying to debate him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt recently when I let him try to explain to me, based on Scripture alone (this was his criteria for interpreting the Bible, mind you), why Genesis is meant to be a literal account. After going round in circles and throwing out a few vague references to Scripture (without explaining why they are relevant), he then accused me of not wanting to read/think, because I was unhappy with his responses. |

Outspoken is indeed LouisBooth. Not exactly a sock puppet; I know a couple of the mods have "non-mod" accounts, because it makes it easier for them to mix it up in a debate. I have never seen a verifiable case of him abusing his mod powers, either - although I wouldn't be surprised if people get warnings for stupid shit when he's around.
FWIW, Outspoken is name #3 on my ignore list on CF, after randman and npetreley. I cannot have productive discussions with him. It seems to me that perhaps in a few months I should try again - I do improve over time, and maybe I'd be able to then. He's not the single poster I'm most likely to disagree with on CF, but close. We do agree on a lot of points, curiously - but whichever side he's on, his unceasing contempt for the other side drives me batty. To this day, I don't recall seeing him admit to any error, except *possibly* once in a thread in SC&E about mathematics and certainty, and I'm not even sure then. What can I say? He seems totally unable to imagine what it would be to feel or believe otherwise. So, for instance, when asked about people a hundred and fifty years ago who were just as certain that slavery was fine, he just insists "they must not have read the Bible". I've yet to see him name a single thing about which he is even mildly uncertain, a single thing in the Bible he thinks is ambiguous... It's *amazing*. |

Praxiteles,
I am stunned at that thread, most particularly JohnR7. ![]() You seem to have done a good job yourself -- congratulations on courage over and above the call of duty. But if you get some one like Outspoken, there really isn't any other answer except to totally ignore them. Seebs, "God made me a skeptic" ? heh, heh. Praxiteles (again), please pardon me if I point out there are tons of Christians who are neither Prods nor Micks. The Eastern (Greek) Orthodox Church The Slavic Orthodox Churches The Armenian Church (founded 350 AD) The Coptic Churches (Egypt, Syria, Ethiopia, Iraq, Lebanon, Israel) The Old Catholics (split off from the Catholics in the late 1800's in protest over the then-newly pronounced ex cathedra powers of the Pope; nowadays, the Old Catholics even have women ministers) The Maronite Church (Lebanon, though now officially subservient to the Roman Catholic Church) The Doukhobors, Mennonites, Amish etc. and probably others who I just can't remember |

Actually, it reminds me of this. ![]() The show me state? If it was then I'd think that there would be a lot more nonbelievers in Missouri. |

Good advice. Sadly, I can't seem to help it. When I see absurdity it's terribly awfully difficult to resist the urge to squish it under my bootheel. ![]() Ah well, ya get that. Cheers, Prax |

As for the "ignore" function - it sounds like a spiffing plan. I don't know if I could deprive myself of the masochistic pleasure of reading some of these remarkable posts, however. ![]() Cheers, Prax |

![]() You are, of course, right. The best option is to ignore. As humans, though, we don't always take that option... ![]() Quote:
Secondly, there is a limit to the number of options permitted, and so I couldn't list all groups. Thirdly (and most pertinently) it didn't occur to me to do it. ![]() [/B][/QUOTE] |
