Heat could flip sex switch

I don't know if I believe it, but it sort of makes sense. It will be interesting to see where the evidence goes on this one.
I wonder if this could help the queen who said "Balls! If I had a pair I'd be King!"

How odd! I just realised that the John Mclachlan who wrote this paper was one of my lecturers when I was an undergrad. The co author, Helen Storey, is an artist who produced a collection of clothes based on embryonic development in collaboration with her sister, Kate Storey, who is a developmental biologist.

It all seems a bit peculiar.

Whales and elephants are two mammals that have internal testicles. Anybody know any theories about why they are different?

(Other than the fact that if I lived where there were sharks and tigers I would want this too)

Dog, ya beat me to it!

Might also add the pinnipeds to the admittedly short list. And the monotremes as well.

Perhaps it's because of the need to streamline, that aquatic mammals lack external genetalia. Also, the water they often swim is cold! "Freezin' yer balls off!" is given a whole, new meaning.
