AND, there is nothing unreasonable about it.
If that is the case then why are we having this discussion?

Off Topic, but... I was a united methodist. What's the difference between UM and other methodists? Here in the Philippines, it's only UMs. I had some pleasant memories of my stint in the UMYF choir.

You know, Tercel, I feel bad for guys like you and Metacrock. I don't mean that in a condescending way, either. Guys like you are obviously intelligent, patient, and willing to learn and think and have discussions. And yet you have to engage all of these theological acrobatics all the time, because your brains won't leave you alone. I know, I know... from your point of view, you should feel bad for me, since I'm an atheist and I'm going to hell... But, there it is.

Hello all.
I notice in Tercel's post the word "superior". Hmmmm, please explain why Christianity is superior to Budhism or any other religion. Judging from the amount of confusion between the various sects of Christians I hardly see how it could be judged superior to anything.
I wish that people who think this way would recognise the bigotry within their belief system.
No offence Tercel, it is just that I can trace so many tradgedies back to this superiority complex.

On rereading that last paragraph I wrote, I feel I didn't convey very well what I was trying to say.
But to address your points:
1. I do not post because 'my brain won't leave me alone'! I post because I enjoy the discussion. I post because I would like to see some of you guys work out your issues with Christianity and come to hate it less. I post because some of you guys could do so much good for Christianity and the world if you could be convinced to be Christians.
2. Theological acrobatics? I find that a surprising accusation given that Meta and I are both liberal enough that our beliefs are completely logical and coherent meaning we don't have to engage in acrobatics to defend them.
3. Neither Meta nor I would consign you to hell on the grounds of your atheism. Disbelieve in God all you like: He can cope.

Postmodernism at its finest I see...

I would remind you that if there is objective truth out there, and God really does exist, then some systems of religion are going to come closer to accurately describing him than others. Nothing to do with 'superiority complex's.

Science could be characterised similarly: It doesn't make it bad or wrong or inferior.

As usual, the fact that someone might actually dare to say that not all people are equally right is politically incorrect and bigoted...

Just a reminder that "Biblical Criticism & Archaeology" is not the place to try to convince others to become atheists or to become Christians or to become Muslims. It is a place where we can enjoy intelligent discussion. Yes, we can correct misunderstandings about our opinions/beliefs related to Biblical Criticism & Archaeology, but the aim should be mutual understanding and not conversion.

best,

Sorry for potentially hijacking this thread, Peter Kirby, but I couldn't resist responding.

Tercel,

I will NEVER stop hating xianity until I am dead. There is nothing that you or anyone else can do or say that will ever change that.

Sincerely,

Goliath

Define Christianity and please explain why you hate it?
