Starting Saturday 4th January at 14:30 (UK time), BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting the first of three instalments of the Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. The first program will (obviously) be Northern Lights. I suppose the original text will be the subject of considerable prcis, and am wondering if the BBC will be sympathetic to Pullmans considerable, and persistent forthright swipes against organised religion.
Heres hoping I remember to listen to it. ![]() Martin |

If our local programming was anything like the BBC's, I'd probably listen to the radio more often. At most I'll hear a three minute synopsis on NPR.
It looks like you might be able to listen to this online. Haven't tried it though, so I'm not sure if it works or not. FYI, Northern Lights was published as The Golden Compass in the USA. |

More information about the series can be found here, here, and here. The broadcast on Saturday is 2 1/2 hours long, and I suppose the following shows on subsequent Saturdays will be too. Martin |

oooh, I love his books!!
too bad I can't record it; I'm going to be at work while it's on, and being in the US, I'd have to hear it over the internet. Unless there is a way to record it........does anyone know? |

missus g., is British Standard Time now the same as GMT? I can't remember if you're on all-year daylight savings or not.
14:30-6 = 8:30 Central. That would work for me. Quite the cast, no? And even better, the last-but-one play was C.S. Lewis. Compare and contrast? |

It starts in 20 minutes; here.
I hadn't heard of the books before, but after listening to an interview with Philip Pullman on Devout Sceptics, I am curious... |
