Have you had a chance to read Gould's newest, "Structure of Evolution"? I almost bought it a couple of weeks ago but it would have put me over my baggage weight allowance

I have it. It looks like a good, comprhensive tome, all 1200+ pages of it. I bought it last week at the HMNH because I got a 10% discount. I'm reading Mayr's book right now and haven't gotten to Gould's yet.

Tron: I guess what disappointed me about it was there wasn't anything really "new" or any new takes on the debate. I also keep comparing it to Dawkins's works (for ex). It's certainly not "bad", just not what I expected from Eldredge's reputation and the title. I actually think Zimmer did better creationist-bashing in one chapter in his "Evolution: Triumph of an Idea" (the chapter entitled "What about God?") than Eldredge did. Still, I enjoyed the book. (PS: I'm also not that enamored of Gould, in the sense that I don't necessarily agree with everything he wrote), but I do like his writings.

Discount, hunh? Some people are lucky - I have to pay full retail... I LOVED Mayr's book. Let me know when you get around to reading Gould. I won't be back in the US with a chance to buy it again until July. I expect a full report before then
