I would not have chilren taught that to achieve is not a goal in itself and must be validated by the ass-smooching of any external entity to count.
Actually I'd say they believe strongly in achievement and excellence since they've worked hard to make Veggie Tales way better than most Christian videos for children. And I'd say they've succeeded at that.

I think it's more that he was implying the specific things he listed were part of a worldview antithetical to Christianity. But he didn't say 'achievement' was anti-Christian. The things he listed are seen to represent the glorification of man as opposed to God, I suppose. Perhaps there are things to be scared about but I'd say you need to look at specifics before you conclude such as thing as 'Veggie Tales discourages achievement' which doesn't seem to be at all the case, as best I can tell.

Granted that the author does not take this to the extremes, (e.g. the Jack Chick doctorine of "faith in God trumps any human achievement as an indicator of value",) but it is a step in that direction.
I'd agree - I think Veggie Tales is quite moderate in various ways, but, then, 'moderate' is a relative term...

take care

We have several of the videos, and my boys love them. Ya gotta admit, they are funny. SO we'll go see the movie, but you can bet there'll be a little "critical thinking" session in the minivan, sponsered by Dad. It should be interesting, since my 9 year old already surmised the truth about Santa Claus "C'mon Dad, every house in the world? In just ONE night? It's just not feasible!".

So Son, how could someone survive in the belly of a whale?

Dammit, you stole my idea! It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.

Brilliant! This is what is needed to be done. Teach children to think critically and open-mindly.

Now, if your child responds to the "how could someone survive in the belly of the whale?" question by saying "Goddidit", then you've got problems.

"Please don't cry, Barbara.
You're a nice Manitee.
You've been so good to me.
But I must go into the world and do noble things for the good of all,
And you can't come because you don't speak French."

I guess I must be the only person who thinks that the videos suck. IMO they are about the same level of quality as Jay-Jay the Jet Plane. My kid didn't like them at all.

You're not the only one, mama. I think they suck!
My three year old son likes to play the Star Wars Trilogy arcade game at the theatre. Which we found when my wife wanted some "movie" popcorn.
We went there a few days ago to blow up some chicken walkers. As we were entering the building, some older guy said,"going to see veggie tales, eh?"
To which I replied, "Not on your life, pal. We don't do that Jesus thing."
I must have startled him because he stopped walking and stood there with a puzzled look on his face. Maybe he didn't know what those nasty vegatables are really up to.

What a brilliant thing to say. That will really help any lurkers to gain respect for us.
