Ugh! I just heard this "Pet Psychic" on NPR's "To the Best of Our Knowledge." The interviewers scarcely even pretended to be skeptical about her supposed abilities.

She did a cold reading -- and not even a good one -- and they acted like she was the genuine article. I was so disgusted at the lack of skepticism that I sent them an e-mail about it. Somehow, I doubt I'll receive a reply, though.

I really expected better from NPR.

I agree! I've seen a few of her segments and she so totally sucks; I could do as good a job as she on those cold readings.

I have, however, seen some pet "psychics" who do much better cold readings and sometimes they are quite entertaining.

I've also seen animal behaviorists who are quite adept at understanding the animals they handle. They just don't pretend it's some supernatural phenomenon.

Cool

I gotta chime in with the rest now that I've channel surfed through her show... not only is she nothing more than a cold reader... she isn't even a terribly good one.

Thumbs down

I find it hard to accept the credibility of someone reading the mind of an animal. The animal cannot speak or otherwise corroborate or refute what the "psychic" says.

No kidding! She so totally sucks at it!

PetPsychic: "Oh, I'm getting that Missy is worried about... who is this, Petey? Yes, Petey! She is telling me that she wants you to take good care of her Petey."

PetOwner: "Oh My GOD! I can't believe you said that; Missy just doted on our little Petey! That's amazing!"

PetPsychic: "Well, she wants to make sure you brush him every day because she worries she is not there to do that."

PetOwner: (tearing up, sobbing) "It was so cute how Missy would do that for him. OH, please, tell Missy we promise! It makes me feel so much better to know that MissyKitty is well and still her feisty self, wherever she is. Thank you sooooo much."

PetPsychic: "MissyKitty seems pleased; she is quite the mother cat."

PetOwner: "Gosh, it's like she's right here with us again."
Ok, where's my tv show?!

The latest thing about her someone told me makes it so obvious she's a phony it's funny.
She claims if you sent a mental image of your pet to the pet, then call the pet's name, just wait and listen.
THE FIRST THING YOUR IMAGINATION TELLS YOU is the communication from the pet?

Huh? That's so silly I can't believe anyone would buy it.

Washington, D.C.: Have you ever been scientifically tested to determine the extent of your powers?

Sonya Fitzpatrick: No. I just know I do what I do and I don't feel that's necessary. I have a gift; I accept that gift and I'm very happy with the gift. I don't have to prove anything to anybody scientifically. I'm grateful I can do what I do. It's my experience and just because somebody doesn't experience what I do doesn't mean to say it's not happening.

Adelphi, Md.: How do you deal with people who are critical of what you do and treat it with total disbelief?

Sonya Fitzpatrick: I don't mind it at all. It doesn't bother me one little bit. They have the right to think what they think. They have a right to be skeptical. I don't need to defend myself. I'm not that insecure. I know I can do what I can do and they're experience is just different than mine. Maybe they can do some things that I can't do. Everybody's different but that's what makes the world go round.
Is it just me or does it seem like she is incapable of speaking in long sentences?
