Did you ever see the movie, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers? I'm talking about the one with Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nemoy. That was an intriguing alien concept. Adaptable life forms that float from Galaxy to Galaxy in search of hosts.

I think it would be an interesting way to gauge peoples views on the worlds many governments.

I guess I should add, that the aliens are not the issue, its peoples perceptions of governments.
I don't think it would matter.

If alien beings showed up in a situation other than shipwreck or the like I would think they would have a good survey of the world. I would expect them to speak all major languages (likely via translating computer) and have a fairly good understanding of how the world works.

I would expect them to meet with all major world governments. The offer would probably be made simultaneously, the actual order would depend mostly on how quickly our bureaucrats could get their act together.

Yeah, figure the energy needed for an interstellar voyage. There is *NO* material commodity worth shipping such distances other than the equipment needed at a location without a local source. (In which case the value is not the equipment but it's location. It's like NASA has abandoned expensive tools on the moon because hauling them home wouldn't be worth it.)

Only if there's some practical hyperdrive could interstellar trade of anything other than information be worth it.

I don't know if anyone remembers the Twilight Zone series that came out back in the 80's. Overall they were pretty bad but there was one where aliens showed up and challenged the Earth to get it's act together and become "more efficient". They told the people of Earth that they were backward compared to the rest of the galaxy and that unless they came up with something in 24 hours, the Earth would be destroyed.

So of course the UN came up with a wonderful peace plan...

But the aliens wanted a planet that could build powerful weapons and make war-that's what they engineered us for after all! HAHAHAHAHAHA! So the Earth was destroyed because it wasn't violent enough.

Aliens would visit the guy in charge. My wife.
