The flip side to this is those same Christians who believe God will bless them here on Earth too for good acts...I don't remember the Bible saying God would give some people special gifts here on Earth...

The only scripture I know of is the one where Jesus said it would be better to tie a millstone around your neck and cast yourself into the sea than to lead astray "one of these little ones"
(Quoting from memory) The verse implies that you should not take advantage of impressionable children to feed them one of the 1200 contradictory atheist theories of who Jesus was, or wasn't, or one of your 12,000 distinct personal philosophies and sets of rules based on your unprovable belief there is no God. Personally, I wouldn't try to convert an unbelieving child either, as I think their parents (right or wrong) should be aware of what you are saying to them, and have sway. Of course children follow examples better than words, so they are naturally drawn to Jesus when they hear about him, just as they were in his day. However I'd say that Q of S will more likely lead a short life if honoring your father and mother lead to a long one as the Bible says. (Sorry to answer on-topic, not that anyone's interested in doing anything but judging people they've never met, based on hearsay evidence). Rad |

Led astray is led astray, eh? QoS, you should probably tell your parents that you'll be changing your screen name to The Great Deceiver in honor of your leading people astray from the (pick a large number much greater than One) True Path of Righteousness. cheers, Michael |

I don't see how a discussion on religion, where I stayed respectful of my parents (if not their beliefs) is dishonoring them. (Sorry to answer on-topic, The above comment wasn't on-topic, since my OP specifically requested verses backing up god's punishment for people who discussed their lack of belief with others. |

You state that because honoring one's parents leads to long life, not honoring them must leads to a short life. (a -> b, ~a, therefore ~b) This is the fallacy of denying the antecedent. It typically results from confusing "if" and "if and only if" and then determining the contrapositive of the statement (a -> b, ~b, therefore ~a). Your reasoning is flawed, therefore you have no valid reason to assume that QoS will lead a short life. |
