I would like to point out that there is no mention of this 'bang of bigness' in The Holy Bible

The Higgs can also be thought of as a field, which pervades all space. The ground state of this field is a non zero energy, and these bosons are just the name for the quanta carrying this energy. Since the Higgs would essentially be the source of vacuum energy, it probably pre-existed all other particles.

I don't think that is entirely accurate. Higgs is postulated to account for the mass of the particles moving through it. I don't think it accounts for everything in a vaccum, at least for what I understand about it.

Perhaps not. If these virtual particles borrow energy from the gravitational field to lead their brief existence, as it's been claimed, the Higgs would merely be this field where the energy comes from. At least I think that's the rough idea of it.
