What if someone came down and demonstrated those attributes and claimed to be Allah? Or better yet, Satan? Would you still believe it was God? Would you only allow your God the error of a name change (Jehovah to blue orbital rhino) if it has no current mythological significance in your mind? |

If I come to your house tonight and leave $20 under your pillow, will you believe that I'm the Tooth Fairy? What would it take? |

Wonderful job. I can't believe how much alike (and how childishly!) these theists act when angered. |

Then...a great miracle occured! The Invisible Pink Unicorn brought my loving father back to life in full form! You better start believing in the Invisible Pink Unicorn. If you don't you're an idiot. [ February 26, 2002: Message edited by: TollHouse ]</p> |

I have to say that after reading a few posts by SOMMS, I really miss people like Nomad. At least they posted logical arguments - not maniacal laughter and pointless propositions.

Let's face it, 2000 years ago people were not very smart, they just never got to develop the critical thinking skills we get a shot at today and they didn't have the information to justify using their minds instead of following blindly to every talented sooth sayer that came along. I guess if I were alive 2000 years ago I'd be one of the people, so it would more than likely take some guy pulling a rabbit out of his hat and saying it was the easter bunny from heaven, then I'd believe. If you mean what would it take for me to believe today, as in what could have happened over 2000 years ago to make me believe in the modern age, well there are allot of things. A floating object of some kind, a show of some gods magical powers every once and awhile like in the PC game Black and White, or even a consistent world wide religion that had no separate denominations and believed in the exact same god without any glaring inconsistencies or faults. Maybe we'd all believe if we were born with perfect knowledge of some god that actually did exist, we'd still have free choice we'd just know what choice we were making. Well, seeing as all gods are equally false, including the christian gods, then it's only good for a laugh to say what it would take. |

I agree. An infinite and all powerful God could come up with an infinite number of ways to prove himself to us. What do we get instead? 2000 year old, second-hand, fairy-tale bullshit and people who believe by faith but pretend to be logically sound in their inherited belief system. |
