That's a more colorful update on Jefferson's "It behoves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others; or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own." (letter to Benjamin Rush, April 21, 1803)

If the trend in the CUNY ARIS data holds (doubtful, but we can hope), many of us may live to see the fundy chicken come home to roost ( http://www.gc.cuny.edu/studies/key_findings.htm ).

Mr. Rational,

What can you reasonably expect from a cartoonist who is, according to the blurb next to the cartoon, a Sunday School teacher?

Remember, God ALWAYS trumps the Constitution for many people.

cheers,
Michael

The core of the problem is that the American people are blissfully ignorant to reality, and listen to whatever is sent to them by the media. Now, our media is actually generally somewhat neutral. But, their religious media, as well as our friends the talkshows, and our friends the government, well, they are seriously into brainwashing. So we need to make sure to get information across to the people. Send in Letters to the Editor explaining the reality of the situation, and hope they can get published out of the mass they are no doubt receiving. Get on radio talkshows... Whatever. I figure y'all are, and, I guess, it's not really much, but it's all we have right now.

The Constitution clearly states that no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States. But now the President is saying that the belief that human rights are given from God is a litmus test for his judicial appointments. It boggles my mind that these kinds of comments are being made as arguments in a constitutional controversy.
Also, as much as I despise our President's policies... He doesn't appoint via religion, and he probably never will. As it is, though, it's easy to tell their stance on such things from rulings, but there is no actual question of that belief (there are no questions regarding religion asked to potential SC appointees).
