snf... You love me! You really love me!
I second the vote for Las Vegas, since we might as well have some fun while we're freethinking. |

Come to Portland. We need more freethinkers, (especially liberal ones) to counter the refugees we've been getting from Orange County for some years.... Medford is pretty isolated and kinda redneck.... most of the state's population is in the northwest corner (From Eugene north) and is very freethinking.
As far as the island idea is concerned, no go. There are no free and unclaimed islands left in the world. They're ALL within someone's territory. So even if you buy one, you're stuck with their laws. No making your own state. (I've already looked.) |

no islands for me
you can feel like you're on an island being surronded by fundies... But i sure like the idea of having a place where FREEDOM of thought and persuit of happines is a reality...
...i wouldn't want to unplug from this country...we still have work to do ... i want to feel the thorn that i am is digging deep in the heart of darkness (the xian reich/and fundies et al). I would soooooooo love to be on the staff of that Metaphysical Naturalists Retreat... in some art capacity. I wish you'd all move here... i don't want to leave my fruit trees and birds that fly to eat out of my hands... but most anywhere where you all are going is ok as long as i don't have to be reminded GOT JESIS or live next door to haseedick jews... i nominate Los Angeles. |

I second the tropical island idea. But why petition to become a US state?
We'll just then have Homeland Security and the CIA messing with us all the time. Then again, the CIA messes with foreign nations, so.... |

Plus it's "hotter than hell" there! We hell-bound heathens will need to acclimate. I also think CA cost of living sucks. Down the street from me is a 528 sq ft "cabana" house-not even on the beach- selling for $360K. Ridiculous. We're moving to Vegas this summer! |

Actually, Medford IS pretty isolated, and Californicated (and yes, this is a dirty word anywhere outside California) too. Used to be big Pear production there (Anyone heard of Harry & David? based in Medford), Housing for Cali retirees going in where orchards used to be. What a good idea! Try Seattle, it's 90F here at the moment. Winters are mild (rarely snows, and it disappears in less than 24 hours usually). We can see snow when we want (1 hour away to ski in winter). Washington is least religious state (according to some poll, can't remember which). Fundies are not on every street corner. Sounds good to me... And that is the RawData |

Pfffft.
I've done Seattle. Housing is even worse than Portland. I ran home.... fast. Oh and it rains constantly. Yes this is coming from an Oregon native.... Seattle depressed ME. By the way.... Washington is the most 'godless' state in the union... THIS YEAR. It usually bounces between Oregon and Washington. |

Highest Unemployment rate also bounces between WA and OR year to year (and month to month). Oh, and you can keep the fog.
