Feng Shui may be BS, but all it does tend to make some rather neat looking rooms.

When I was looking for a house one realtor told me about a couple that was into Feng Shui. They would bring their "consultant" along to look at houses.

What happened? They picked a house and had some sort of atrium installed all with the approval of their Feng Shui consultant.

It just so happened that the design and addition acted like a termite magnet and their house got infested. Serious damage as a result.

I imagine a lot of people use Feng Shui as a heuristic for interior design. Of course there are no lines of energy to line up your furniture to and no dragon under your basement, but maybe if you look at your house as if there were you end up with home designs or interior decorating that are aesthetically and/or ergonomically pleasing.

When I took Tai Chi Chuan, I knew damn well there wasn't a line of chi going from my spine to the heart of the earth. But if I visualized that it helped me do the exercises. I know dan tien (a place in the lower abdomen) isn't my spiritual center. But it does seem to be close to my center of gravity while standing. And being conscious of that helped me do the tai chi forms.

What's messed up is when people cross the line and confuse a way of looking at reality with reality itself. And as we know that is all too common.

I don't get Showtime, so I won't be viewing Penn and Teller's show, but I was glad to read about it.

I just hope, as others have pointed out, that they don't mix some things that may have limited value (though overstated) with the stuff that's total crap, unless they are clear with their conclusions.

livius drusus, hate to have to concur, but you are a wimp! (But I'm sure there are worse things to be, so chin up!)

The only thing I've heard that would go against global warming, is other scientists at the same time believe the earth may be heading into another ice age.

Inidel Guy apparently has the first episode (or parts of it - not sure if its video or just audio) on his site here.

Note, you'll have to register with his site to get there. I haven't tried to watch it yet, so I can't verify what's actually there. I got this scoop from Skeptic's Dictionary.

There's also some interesting satellite data from smog-covered areas like Tokyo and the LA basin that suggest the smog is blocking enough solar radiation to reduce the temperature slightly in those areas. But even that's still up for debate. I haven't bothered checking any of that stuff since the Mount Pinatubo eruptions have both 1) increased the greenhouse gasses and 2) vastly increased the amount of soot in the air. The buddy who's an atmospheric specialist moved off to Colorado Springs to work on Gallileo, so I would have to actively look it up these days.
