Default Blix 'correcting' Bush

Just read this in "der spiegel" (major german weekly)
Blix in response to Bushs lies in state of the union address:
contrary to what Bush said there is no indication that Iraq moved scientists out of the country to prevent questioning or that Iraqi agents were posing as scientists for questioning. Also said that there is no indication of a connection between Iraq and Al-Quaida.

He also contradicted Powell, who said that inspectors had found hints that Iraq was hiding illegal weapons and moving them out of the country to avoid detection.

He also said he finds a military preventive strike completely unneccessary.

Have not seen this in US media yet.

Blix so far seemed pretty harsh toward Iraq compared with the other inspectors, so it's interesting to see him come out to show Bush is lying.

Slightly related, but Iraq has just demanded that Shrub back up his rhetoric.

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of the Bush adminstration fundamentally misrepresenting what the inspectors have said. The guy who is in charge of looking for nuclear weapons -- the only thing we really need to be worried about -- has flat out said that there is no evidence that Iraq has restarted its program, nor is there any lack of cooperation from the Iraqis. For some reason, only the criticisms of Iraq get acknowledged by the Bush administration.

Of course, this isn't anything new.

The Bush administration since inception has ignored any point of view which does not agree with Shrub's personal stance. Kinda reminds me of another institution..."Bush said it, I believe it, that settles it."

This administration is by far in my experience the least tolerant of dissent within or outside itself.

All hail King George IV

"BLIX SAID HE SAW NOTHING TO PROMPT A WAR. SAYS ALLEGATIONS BY BOTH POWELL AND BUSH NOT FROM HIS REPORT NOR FROM KNOWN EVIDENCE Mr. Blix took issue with what he said were Secretary of State Colin L. Powell's claims that the inspectors had found that Iraqi officials were hiding and moving illicit materials within and outside of Iraq to prevent their discovery. He said that the inspectors had reported no such incidents.Similarly, he said, he had not seen convincing evidence that Iraq was sending weapons scientists to Syria, Jordan or any other country to prevent them from being interviewed. Nor had he any reason to believe, as President Bush charged in his State of the Union speech, that Iraqi agents were posing as scientists. He further disputed the Bush administration's allegations that his inspection agency might have been penetrated by Iraqi agents, and that sensitive information might have been leaked to Baghdad, compromising the inspections. Finally, he said, he had seen no persuasive indications of Iraqi ties to Al Qaeda, which Mr. Bush also mentioned in his speech. More broadly, he challenged President Bush's argument that military action is needed to avoid the risk of a Sept. 11-style attack by terrorists wielding nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.
