Well, when you all move here, you can come to my house and we'll have a dinner party.

Default LOVE New Zealand

(Laurie) New Zealand rocks! I was there for two weeks in 2001, just by myself; had a travel agency fix me up a custom "sport vacation." All New Zealand is gorgeous, but (as a kayaker) I'd would have to give a special nod to Abel Tasman National Park on the North Island. Black-water rafting in Waitomo was the most fun(riding innertubes on underground rivers through glowworm-filled caves). The Lost World Cavern was a hell of an experience too: a 300-foot sheer rope rappel down into a magnificent, green-choked limestone sinkhole. Easily the worst place in the world to break your leg, and that's what I did. (Wish they'd at least had a splint stashed down there, but no.) Amazing what humans can do when you have to. I climbed back out, on my broken leg, over slick boulders, in the dark, climbing a 150-foot ladder at one point. But don't think that stopped my vacation! I just needed to get a cast, some crutches, and prune the belongings down to a daypack, then it was back on the road. I love New Zealand. The people are fantastic, everyone has a good attitude, and all the men - I'm not kidding - ALL the men are buff & handsome! Who wouldn't want to live there? Go for it!

No, they're not! LOL!

Pleased you had a great time, though, Laurie - even if you did break a leg.

You know, it's too bad Air New Zealand fell to the quasi-American Qantas, too. I liked their flight attendants' spiffy uniforms because of that neato hat and the color scheme. Just one other thing I liked about the whole experience.

I really miss my time there. Too bad I'm too busy/broke to afford a trip soon. Ah well. The longing will make the joining better, eh?

Let me know what else you need to know. [/B][/QUOTE]

I have been seriously looking into Canadian citizenship, and have sent a letter to their Consul Gerneral to see if I qualify to apply. They haven't replied yet.

I took a quick look at the link you posted for New Zealand immigration, and very much like the Canadians, you have definitive categories based on family sponsorships, skilled labor, having a job lined up in advance and so forth. What I didn't find is any reference to retirees. I am retired and have my own income. Do you have any idea whether I would qualify given those circumstances?

Just nice to have some places lined up if the need should arise.

Wow it is so shocking to me to see so many people thinking of moving and I am one of them! I keep saying to myself its not that bad its not that bad, but so many people are talking about leaving. I can not stop thinking about the people who left Germany Before it got bad there in the 30s.
Right now I am trying to get all my credit payed off. Car loan and the bain of my life the Cards! If I get that stuff gone shortly there after I will be too.

I didn't find a great deal about retirement in NZ, but I did find a little. I would suggest following the Inland Revenue link posted in the text I've provided, and requesting an info pack. Oh, and Tauranga or Mount Maunganui are great places to retire. They're in the Western Bay of Plenty, and are absolutely beautiful. Great facilities for retirees, too.

From here:

Quote:
The requirements for people of retirement age are the same as for everybody else, except the cut off age for general skills category is 56, you need to get the requirement number of points to be able to get permanent residency. Recipients of the Information Pack who specify that they are retired and will be receiving money from overseas will get included in the pack, a 20 page booklet sourced from Inland Revenue containing "Information for people who receive a social security pension from outside New Zealand".
Additional info of a more general nature:

NZ Immigration Consultants and Advisory Services

NZ Immigration Packs

NZ Immigration Guide

New Zealand Immigration, Investment, and Strategic Relocation Information & Resources.

I hope this helps.

for Lunachick:

Thanks for the links. I checked them out and the one from your internal revenue only addresses people for tax purposes who are already there. The others unfortunately don't say anything other than you have to have 24 points to apply. They still say nothing about anyone in my circumstances.

I'd better start learning the words to "Oh Canada"------eh?
