Default What do to with a tax refund?

Walgreen's pharmacy has sent me a sales tax refund. It's for an overcharge on a prescription for my cat. The problem is, the check is made out to my cat.

Has anyone had such a problem? Can cats legally sign over a check to the owner? Can the owner sign for the cat?

Whatever you do, don't let your cat get hold of it, or you can expect overnight deliveries of various exotic cat toys, live goldfish, bulk quantities of brown paper bags, etc.

Unless it's more than a couple bucks, I say frame it and put it over the cat's litter box.

In all seriousness, the thing to do is call Walgreen's and say "Hey, you sent me a check made out to my cat." If you send your check back I'll bet they'll cut a new one made out to Crazyfingers.

On the other hand, maybe the only reason you got a sales tax refund is they thought the medication was for a human and should have been tax-exempt. I don't know if drugs for animals are tax-exempt in your state, but I'm guessing not.

.... can i ask what your cat's name is? Because, im imagining a check made out to "snugglebunny" or something equally absurd. How could someone not have noticed?!

Me? I'd take it to the bank as it is and try get them to accept it for thrills

His name is Dude. The check is made out to "Dude xxxxx" where xxxxx is my last name.

The reason for the refund is long but Massachusetts passed a law reguiring a $1.30 tax on all prescription drug transactions. Pharmacies had interpreted the law as meaning it was a tax on consumers. But the state told them that Pharmacies are supposed to pay the tax without collecting it from consumers. So they had to send this refund to all of their customers who had a prescription filled in the first 2 months of the year.

So, while it's only $1.30, I wish to milk it for the fun of it.

1) Shoot the politicians that passed such a law. Whether it's officially passed on or the price just rises $1.30 doesn't matter.

2) How about the newspaper?

3) Alternately, take the check to the bank of issue along with the cat and the prescription information so they can see what's going on and sign it with a pawprint. (This is assuming the cat is docile enough to let you do this.)

You should be able to sign the cat's name in the endorsement section, then your own.

That's usually what I do when someone writes out a check to me and incorrectly spell my relatively simple name.

Of course, that kilss the comedic value of a check made out to your cat.
