Yes, and similarly, the guy at the counter of the chemist is not qualified to give prescriptions.
Couldn't this be turned to your advantage?

I can't find any reference to a professor M.E. Clark at the University of Illinois' various websites...
Some of you guys may know who M.E. Clark is. I'd appreciate a little information.
On this page a "Marlyn E Clark" is listed among the emeritus faculty at the UofI.

The U of I "online phonebook" has this listing for M. E. Clark:

http://www.uiuc.edu/cgi-bin/ph/ns.uiuc.edu?Query=m+e+clark

M E Clark - m-clark4@uiuc.edu
alias: m-clark4
name: clark m e
pretty_name: m e clark
first_name: m
middle_name: e
last_name: clark
email: m-clark4@staff.uiuc.edu
title: emeritus
department: theoretical and applied mechanics
type: person phone retired

If you want to take the step of contacting Hassan Aref, the current head of the department, to inquire about M E Clark here's the info you need.

I live about three blocks from Talbot Lab, where Clark would have taught classes. I am not a student at the University of Illinois and I'm afraid I don't have any connections with the Lab, and I'm not familiar with the book under discussion, but do post a reply here, or message / email me if you think I could perform some reasonable (ie, not overly time-consuming or confrontational) "local research" service.

Hope this is useful for you.

- David

edited to add:

This page, apparently Baugh's "dissertation", credits Clark with being, in 1987, "retiring chairman of the American Society of Civil Engineers." That organization's website:

http://www.asce.org/

I didn't find a list of previous chairpersons; the position of "chairman" or "chairperson" doesn't currently exist, according to this official listing of national officers.

And according to this .PDF file from the ASCE's Official Register page, listing past and present officers, there's never been a "chairman" or "chairperson" position on the Society's board, although various committes (such as the Executive Committee) have had chairpersons. Clark is not listed as far back as that document is concerned with.

But you can email the ASCE Cybrarian with questions about ASCE:
cybrarian@asce.org

...or use their online Cybrarian info request form.

The game's afoot...

Well googling on "marlyn Clark" turned up this:

Marlyn E. Clark, Our Amazing Circulatory System, Technical Monograph No. 5 (San Diego: Creation-Life Publishers, 1976).

Interesting publisher.

Isn't that the sequel to "Bomby, the Incredible Irreducible Bombardier Beetle"?

40 bucks US?

Christ, I wouldn't pay that much for a book that was honest (unless my course absolutely demands it)

I wrote a letter to the Toronto Public Library advising them that they had at least one title ("Icons Of Evolution") mixed in with the real science books, and I received a positive response from them, but nothing seems to have been done about it. They also have "Darwin's Black Box" in the biology section. However, they don't have anything by YEC's that I know of, and they correctly put the VHS of "The Mysterious Origins of Man" in the Dewey 000 series with the UFO and Loch Ness monster books...

Oh, it can be far worse than that.

Some of you may have gathered that I went to the Dino-Bird Exhibition at London's Natural History Museum a couple of weeks back. I could not, of course, refrain from a browse in the bookshop. It has a pretty good selection. Then I noticed, nestling like cuckoo eggs beside Dawkins and Dennett, several copies of Behe's Darwin's Black Box

This, in the bookshop of the organisation that put out such a strong statement after the Emmanuel College business, I find outrageous. If this shite can infiltrate such places, what hope for ordinary bookshops?!

Yes, I would suggest contacting the current head of the department. They really can't do anything about it as long as the person is not officially representing the university, especially if the person is an emeritus faculty member, but they might at least confirm or deny that the person is who they claim they are, and it would also alert them to the problem (although I'm sure they already know). And you never know, they might provide you with some juicy information.

At least it isn't by something by Gish, Morris, Sarfati or people like that. The Emmanuel college business (as I understand it) was strictly about YEC nonsense. Behe is a bit better than that.
