Question

I am highly skeptical of the "8 days without food" thing.

Of course, if the claim was "Forty days and nights without food", I would have no problems accepting that.

Well, this is what Iraqis did in Kuwaiti hospitals.

And cut noses ears and such according to one Dr Adil Awadh.

Nice hospitals.

POW Father Denies Daughter Shot, Stabbed

I guess we'll find out what happened when she recovers...

LOL!

So much for the "official reports" which "confirmed" that she was "shot and stabbed."

No, of course not, for the following reasons:

1) there will always be those who deny that women can be good in combat because they want to believe it. They will always militate against women.

2) Women can be just as violent (though they tend to show it in different ways), and just as courageous as men, and generally have better stamina --- but that isn't really the point.

3) In the past, women in combat have generally been a sign that that particular side using them feels under enormous threat.
There is a wide-spread and most likely genetically-based but culturally-furthered bias against having women in combat; for myself, while I more than admit to their full equality and right in the front line, I am still personally queasy about risking women in front-line units, for a variety of reasons.

The controversy will never really go away because of (3), and even though (IMHO) women should be allowed full voluntary rights to front-line service, perhaps the controversy should also be allowed to rumble along.

So you think only men should be forced to front-line service? And do you think a life of a woman is worth more than a life of a man (as you said that you don't feel comfortable risking lives of women in combat)

Just asking...

Now where did I say that ?

I don't know if I'll bother answering your question; I mean, I dislike strawmen.

Remove the strawmen and we can discuss.

It's was a fair assumption on my part since you said women should not be forced into front line duties, i.e. it's a qualified statement.
I will accept your clarification though as I am not eager to beat up strawmen any more than you are eager defending them.

Again, my assumption follows directly from your words. You said

It is pretty obvious to me that you are only "queasy" about risking women in front-line units, even if they are as fit and combat-ready as men in those units.

If you would care to explain your stance better maybe we can disuss this further...

No, it was an invalid inference on your part.
Since it left several vital premises out, your statement happens to be wrong as stated by you

Nope, it follows from your hasty mistaken inferences.

Since you've left the strawman standing, I feel no great onus to explain it to you.

Possibly someone else will come along and ask, possibly you'll actually realize your mistake, or maybe you'll just withdraw the strawman, or maybe none of the above will happen.

Any road, I'm easy.
