Read the article above.I was pleased I hadn't imagined the experiment.

Wouldn't tension provide some weight? Blood pressure, air in the lungs, constricted muscles.

Well, the OP had the soul weighing 4 ounces, Blackmore's quote had a one ounce soul early in the twentieth century that lost weight as measurement got better, and the tabloid article linked above, has the soul weighing 1/3,000 of 1 ounce. That's probably less than the weight of water in a single exhalation.

We've known for a long time that there has been a spiritual decline around the world. Now there is scientific proof. We've lost at least 2999/3000 of our souls, in a single century! That's so depressing.

Thank you. Had this little "gem" of information come from anyone but him I wouldn't have ever thought twice about it. In fact I barely did. The guy is a philosophy teacher and one of the most intelligent people I know. He even told me the university that conducted the experiment. I'll remember to call the BS card on him the next time we talk.

With respect to bloodpressure and muscles, the simple answer to this question is: No, it wouldn't.

As for air in the lungs, the density of air is about 1 kg per cubic metre, or one gram per litre. I can't imagine anyone's lung capacity being much more than 8 litres (about 2 US gallons). Such a person could lose as much as 8 grams (a little over a quarter ounce) with each breath.

Well that isn't really relavent because no one has show that an experiment like this has actually been conducted.

Or maybe its just physics - remember, the speed of light has shown an analogous decrease in speed over the past 200 years (or was that an increase? I can never remember).
