In the same way, I suspect love for Diana etc refers to an idea of some sort, and not the actual person. Good post, thank you. |

Or do you think that "The Rapture" is going to come and the whole point is moot? PS: I agree with Mageth, the only thing that is going to save us from ourselves, is ourselves. The sooner we (the collective 'we') figure that out, the better. |

I'm going to have to disagree with this analogy. In spite of being the most photographed woman in the world, Diana wasn't a media creation, she was a real person and we did know rather more about her - the bad as well as the good - than we know about any historical figure who may or may not have existed - and a hell of a lot more than any supernatural one.
This isn't to suggest that we felt the same for her as we feel for our own kin and it would take longer than I have time for at present to discuss the reasons why she had the effect she did (as well as derailing this thread) but the love, respect and admiration she inspired was real enough and so was our grief when she died. Suggesting we were labouring under some kind of mass self-delusion is incredibly patronising, actually. |

was a very sad day
amen Mollymac
we lost the one of the biggest names fighting one of the the most horrible unseen wreckers of life ... Princess Diana's crusade to stop the use of Landmines is Hugh. Have you ever seen Tony or George or Vladamir in a field of mines ? The woman got her hands dirty doing the right thing. |
