That's right. But mentioning speciation in the past (ie. fossil record) doesn't count because it was still in the period of creation. It's kinda fucked up.

Lets just say that the guy screwed up. It is certainly nothing unusual about someone getting facts wrong about a field outside of their own speciality. The citation comes from a popular level book that is not in anyway related to speciation. And thus citing this work as proof of no speciation is inexcusable for work above the high school level.
