Default Online IQ tests

http://www.highiqsociety.org/flash/n...rs/iqtests.htm

This place has a variety of IQ tests. I took the 12 minute timed test and got a 132, which corresponds closely to what I got way back in 3rd grade when I qualified for the gifted program. I have no idea how valid that result is though, it had a lot of vocabulary type questions. I didn't think IQ tests were supposed to test so much learned knowledge.

I took the test too, and got 132. My wife and both took one on another site, and we scored the same.

Gee, us smart people seem to find the exact same websites!

Don't bother with online IQ tests. They tend to be skewed toward the top.

Online IQ tests usually give people high scores and then they want you to buy a fancy certificate. I saw one that was True or False only!

from: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/001912.htm

There are many IQ tests used today. The most commonly used in the U.S. and U.K for adults are the Catell B, Culture Free, and Wechsler tests. Each of these uses different scales; therefore, the score represents statistical cutoffs in the population. For example, on the Catell B only 2% of people, on average, are able to score above a 148therefore, 148 is arbitrarily designated genius. Similarly, the 2% mark is 133 in the Culture Free, and 132 in the Wechsler. The score is very much related to which test was used. Furthermore, different tests are used for different age groups.

Generally, scores around 100 are average, while scores below 70 indicate some degree of mental retardation. Again, scores are test and age dependent, so a child that scores 120 on one test will not necessarily score a 120 on a separate test as an adult. And someone who scores 140 on the Catell B will clearly not score 140 on the Wechslerhe will more likely score around 125.

with the ones i've done, i swing anywhere between 120-140. Of course theyre a pile of crap, the whole idea of a standard measure of intelligence is. But heck, its something i can spend my time on and gloat over right?

MadMordigan took an online IQ test and got a score of 41. I laugh everytime I think of that. The rest of us were getting genius scores. He swore it was true!

True/False doesn't mean it's not a good test.

My father used to give true/false open-book, open-note, basically no time limit tests. Of course the students thought it would be a cakewalk. They didn't keep that attitude after the first test, though.
Know the material and they were a cakewalk (and if you forgot some little detail you could look it up), don't know the material and you would flunk. (I used to grade them--and scores below 50% weren't exactly rare.)

Seems to me a good intelligence test would try to use words of a more 'common usage'. It wants to see if you can make the connections between the words, but if many of the words are foreign to you its a guess. How could that possibly be testing your intelligence. Hell, it might as well be a vocabulary test.
