Be careful, though. Pop-up stoppers or browsers with such capabilities will often prevent legitimate windows from showing up. Such cases are few and far between, so you shouldn't have a problem.

I wonder what the ad industry will do with so many people using pop-up stoppers these days?

They'll claim that pop-up killers and blockers are theft tools and set up thier websites to deny acess to people who try to visit them with their "theft tools" engaged.

W00t! Thanks AV!

Jonathon Chance: Pfft. Don't worry about it. I'd bet even money that there's already a crack for that software that lets you visit the sites while you still have a pop-up blocker on. I mean, hell, they give hackers a perfect testing simulation right there!

No, they're theft-blocking tools. Bandwidth isn't free. If they want me to view ads, they can make them pure text so they don't waste my time and bandwidth. Google does that, and I see every one of their ads. I never see popup ads or banner ads.

Apple's browser Safari also has the option of blocking popup windows.

I think Safari is Mozilla repackaged for the OSX(BSD). At least it looks that way.

Actually, no- it's a new browser, built on KHTML and KJS from the KDE project. (The same stuff that Konqueror is based on)

Back when an Apple web browser was just rumor, everybody had speculated that it would be based on Mozilla. But Apple apparently picked KHTML because it was very small, efficient code versus Mozilla's bloat.

Proxomitron

A paste from the ReadMe:

Stop windows that pop-up, pop-under, or pop-over
Stop those un-closable endless banner chains
Stop pop-up JavaScript message boxes
Remove web-branding and other scripts tacked on by "free" web providers.
Convert most ads and banner pictures into simple text links
Freeze all animated gifs
Make blinking text appear as bold instead
Remove slow web counters
Stop web pages from "auto-refreshing"
Prevent pages from changing fonts
Get rid of or replace web page background images
Protect against getting "trapped" inside someone else's frames!
Make all frames resizable
Close top or bottom frame banner windows
Protect against getting "trapped" inside someone else's frames!
Make background MIDI songs play only when you choose.
Remove status bar scroll-texts
Remove "dynamic" HTML from pages
Disguise your browser's identity and version from JavaScripts
Remove style sheets
Un-hide URLs when the mouse is over a link
Disable frames or tables altogether
Change or delete cookies
Change your browser's user-agent and other identifying fields
Hide where you've been previously from inquisitive web servers

And it's FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE......

You set it as a local proxy so it works with any Windows browser.

I've seen expensive commercial packages that don't do the half of it. Used it for years. Wouldn't browse without it.

Edit: better link (version 4.5... just installed it as I was on 4.4)

Huh? You have something against 3-button mice?! I take it that you don't run X? Sun type 5 mice and keyboards are easily the best I've ever used.
3 button very precise optical mouse and a wonderful keyboard with lots of extra functions handy (Copy/Cut/Paste, Front, Open, etc).

Cool. that explains the mozilla-like look. Konqueror looks a lot like it too.

Never did like Konqueror, usually just run mozilla on my Linux box.

Since I seldom browse the web on my Solaris machines, I do run Konqueror there.
