Why in hell is Randy Orton getting such a huge push?

He's barely out of OVW and he's sidekicking with the greatest ever in Ric Flair?

Does the Orton name carry that much clout?

Bob Orton was one tough son-of-a-bitch if the work schedule he kept is any indication. Seems like for the better part of twenty years he was everywhere at the same time. I was never that much of a fan fo Florida wrestling, but my impression was the promoters liked him, which probably has disposed all the old-timers in the business to give the kid a leg up. Family traditions are a big thing in the business.

Remember back in the day we had Ted the Millionaire Someone and the I.R.S. guy? Some six-foot four guy in suspenders and a short sleeved collared shirt wielding a fendi briefcase?

Default WOW!

Some great wrestling discussion here. On to a few points.....

I was actually hoping for Sean O'Hare to make more of an impact coming over from WCW. What a specimen! And he took some real risks for a big guy. But when he disappeared I thought he was cut, and I'm thinking, "Keep Palumbo, but axe O'Hare? So I was glad to see him back, but pairing him up as second banana to Roddy Piper?
Ron,

O'Haire is a great specimen, awesome look, and has some charisma. The problem in WCW was that he was sent out there way too early to perform. The Piper pairing was so that Roddy could help elevate O'Haire to a superstar level.

The role of aged veterans should be to elevate the new superstars. Paul Heyman was excellent at this in ECW, using Terry Funk, Cactus Jack, Steve Austin (and others) to get over Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Mikey Whipwreck and so on.......

honestly you'd have to pay me to watch any of the women of WWE work in the ring. I really wish ECW was still around.
Oh no, you're missing out!! Fit Finley has taken over the women's division, and they are improved from just a few years ago. Molly Holly (my future wife), Jazz and Victoria are all the workhorses, while Trish and others have made great strides.......I used to hate the WWE women wrestling but it's now very watchable for the most part.

And I miss ECW too, more than you can ever know.

Its staged, but I don't think people realize ow much is staged.
The wrestler's job is to basically hit their spots, sell to the camera (not always easy selling to the hard cam side) and make their time cues........not at all easy.

Because WWE needs to create new stars, he's big, young, has a great look, and they think they could push him like they did Rock. Of course, Rock is a once-in-a-lifetime legitimate superstar the way Hogan always dreamed of being, but Orton has loads of potential. What killed WCW (one of the things) was that they never created new superstars. You have to push young guys straight out of the gate.

Yes, because Flair is a great teacher. Flair is one of the best promo men in history, and talking is such a big part of the biz now. And Flair is the best worker ever IMO, so they want Orton to learn from Flair. Simple concept really.

DiBiase had a great gimmick, he was Vince McMahon. Seriously. Vince used to give him cash to live the gimmick, DiBiase used to go into bars and restaurants and pick up tabs and be all showy about it........"I'm the Million Dollar Man!!!!!!"........he was playing the real life Vince character.

There is word going around today (and for the last several days, maybe weeks) that Goldberg is thinking of quitting. He apparently doesn't like the way he is being treated/portrayed. I can't say as I really blame him. I don't think that he was brought in correctly, or was used correctly. Kind of a shame, becuase I think he could really get over with the wwe fans.

Jacey:

Is that Molly Holly future wife for real or wishful thinking? I actually appreciate her skills, which have come a long way in a short time, and I'm am so happy there's no more "Mighty Molly" sidekick bit. She doesn't come across all bimbo like so many of the others.

I agree Jazz and Victoria have skills, and I've always thought Ivory works hard.

Trish is another matter. I know the girl's trying, but I've seen too many years of her and her water wings and steamy facial expressions plastered all over Kennedy's bodybuilding magazines to ever take her seriously. Though I admit she's seems to be actually learning some moves now, her timing's still just awful.

I also have to say I've never seen a woman actually improved by breast implants and these gals are no exception.

Everyone has their own tastes, I suppose. I'd rather watch the cruiserweights and high flyers work than the slabs-o-beef, and I still think women's wrestling is sacrecely a hair's difference from the mud wrestling you see on the strip, though that's obviously selling. Not that I'm saying Dustin Rhodes' and Hurricane Helmsley's lives are any more dignified these days.

I wish.

I've always liked the way that Starla Saxton/Miss Madness/Mona/Mighty Molly has carried herself.......very dignified, and she's not the blonde bimbo stereotype at all. And she's got great eyes.
