The difference is that, that person is actually giving the person a physical object.

Did you hear about he 17 who tried to sell his eternal soul on ebay? There were some bids, but ebay shut it down too. They said that if the soul does exist, then it violates their policy of selling humans remains or parts and if the soul does not exist, the auction was for nothing.
