I had heard, and enjoyed, the bear joke, but instead of an atheist, it was a preacher out hunting when his gun jams.

It makes a lot more sense for a preacher than for an atheist to want God to make the bear a Christian. It also makes the conclusion funnier because why would the atheist be surprised that a Christian is about to kill him? Ah, but a preacher, who was himself about to kill the bear....well, it's just a lot funnier.

That's how I heard it, too. The gun jams, and then the preacher falls to his knees and prays to god to help the bear find religion. Then the bear falls to his knees and prays "thank you lord for this bounty I am about to receive." Heehee, much funnier that way.

I received the godspam bear joke today from my sister-in-law...not mean-spirited, just teasing I think.
