If that was true, I'ld be very impressed. Believing that there may be a god is not the same as believing that a specific god exists. It's not even precisely the same as believing that there is a vague god who's never been seen by any human being. So, which god(s) do you believe in? Or are you just convinced that there is a god even though noone at all has any idea who or what that god is or what he/she/it/they want? Saying "there is no god" is no more rediculous than saying "there are no reindeer that can fly" even though you haven't personally checked every atom in the entire universe for gods or flying reindeer. They're just not sensible beliefs without some actual evidence that the being in question exists. If more people tried to kill in the name of santa, it would be improtant to point out that he doesn't exist - that's mentioning god's lack of evidence is important. |

You worship every god? You tithe to every church? You obey every religion's commandments, including the ones about not belonging to another religion?
If that was true, I'ld be very impressed. So would I but no I don't worship them in that sense. Believing that there may be a god is not the same as believing that a specific god exists. True. So, which god(s) do you believe in? Or are you just convinced that there is a god even though noone at all has any idea who or what that god is or what he/she/it/they want? I "believe" in that which Is. I don't have a normal "God" image, If you read my other thread "thou art God" you will see that the only way I can make sense of it all is if everything that exist is God or of God, being the same thing. But I don't KNOW what Is absolutely, I can't possible claim that DemiGods doesn't exist. From where would I know this? Saying "there is no god" is no more rediculous than saying "there are no reindeer that can fly" even though you haven't personally checked every atom in the entire universe for gods or flying reindeer. So the "truth" we cling to, is only ever an approximated one right? What makes sense to me, is that if you want to pray to God that God shouldn't flood your pasture, then you can pray all you want(basicly), but wouldn't it be smarter if you got off your ass and started building it yourself? Don't expect "God" to help you everywhere, you need to act on your own once in a while...could it be? See where I am going here? So I believe that if YOU say that God Is, then God Is when we are together. I have found that no matter the God, if I just behave and act responsible with Love then no harm shall fall on me DD - Love Spliff |

You're using the word "God" in a completely different way to how everyone else uses it, and then being surprised when there's disagreement. I believe that things that exist are things that exist, too. I don't see what relevance that statement has to a sentient powerful invisible entity that's playing a game of hide and seek or the existance of a hypothetical afterlife which will be spent with any deities that make an appearance. Shouldn't you be slightly more explicit about your significantly different usage of the word "god", to avoid confusion? Not everybody has read every thread, so people can easily miss your non-standard word usage. I have no plans to debate your definition, it's usefulness, or any other aspect of what you believe - I'm just trying to make it clear that if we use words in such radically different ways then meaningful discussion isn't even possible. If your version of God is so unusual, you may want to find a different word or phrase that more clearly expresses what you believe. Quote:

I see now.
You're using the word "God" in a completely different way to how everyone else uses it, and then being surprised when there's disagreement. I am not surprised, what you seem not to have seen, is that when I talk to others about "God", I usually notice how they define the word and concept of "God", by using their definition, I go about my analysis. Also if their belief system is a non-God based one. How they define is my basis, then I use yin/yang methodology and see if there is flaws within their own argument, since I cannot know anything, I am ill suited to define teh concept of God. Since I work with what you give me, I believe in everything, because different people say different things, the things you say, will be our middle ground in a sense. I believe that things that exist are things that exist, too. I don't see what relevance that statement has to a sentient powerful invisible entity that's playing a game of hide and seek As I said, I don't know if there is a being or not, but a lot say it IS there. Shouldn't you be slightly more explicit about your significantly different usage of the word "god", to avoid confusion? Not everybody has read every thread, so people can easily miss your non-standard word usage. Yes, I fit my definition depending on who I talk too, so when talking to an atheist, I am an atheist, talking to a theist I am a theist. I have no plans to debate your definition, it's usefulness, or any other aspect of what you believe Isn't that what we are doing by discussing? I'm just trying to make it clear that if we use words in such radically different ways then meaningful discussion isn't even possible. If your version of God is so unusual, you may want to find a different word or phrase that more clearly expresses what you believe. Maybe we can find a better word, you are right, I need a new word. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Darth Dane So the "truth" we cling to, is only ever an approximated one right? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey, life still isn't neat and tidy, and it doesn't come with any guarantees or warranties.
