I agree with the message of your letter to the editor, but I am not sure Bush's comments were so strongly pro-religion to deserve your reply. He basically said that faith allows people to have a moral core and calls them to a higher duty. Just like you, I think faith does not make one more moral and moral codes are associated with them but by no means founded upon the idea of God. Still, I can easily imagine a liberal priest saying the same things Bush did, which means the quote did not fit into the narrow viewpoints of fundamentalists or evangelicals. |
