Question

I saw one just now on the way home on a "freewill" (HAH!!!) baptist church that simply said-
"Good people don't get into Heaven".
What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is that supposed to be inspirational? Scary? What? Yeesh!!!

Here's a classic I saw this past weekend:

Where will you be a hundred years from now.

I know what you mean, there's some inspirational shit at my work that says something along the lines of "in 100 years it won't matter what your checking account balance is, what matters is what difference you made in the life of a child." I'm like, "whatever."

That very poster was hanging above my desk at a place I worked a few years ago. Gak! I hated it. Those inspirational posters are lacking to say the least.

I do remember a church marquee in Marathon, FL once that said

They had some amusing ones for awhile.

Yes,
Don't you just LOVE (sarcasm mode) that behavioral development shit they post around the workplace?

They have these big posters here that read...

BE HERE NOW....

lol... I've been tempted to overwrite it with BITE ME NOW...

Default More Sign Crapola

A nearby church, during the height of GulfWarII, had a sign saying, "May you be in Shock & Awe of God's love"....

What better way to honor the thousands dead by a bombing campaign, eh?

This is the same church where, a few months ago, someone put up their own plastic letters which read, "Just because everyone believes it doesn't make it true".

They were clearing the letters before I could return with my camera. They also put hinged plastic covers with locks over the signboard.

What they are saying is that being a 'good person' is worthless. Without Jesus you are going to hell.

Well, the theology is...as humans we all sin. We all deserve hell because of our transgressions. Jesus is the only cure for this. Therefore, when we do 'good things' it means nothing (since we are slime with the power and forgiveness of the blood of Jesus washing us.) All 'good' comes from God, god is good, good is god......

etc....

sounds just plain silly doesn't it?

Talking

Thanks Talullah....and what a load of steaming crap!!
This ain't quite a church marquee sign, but my brother has a picture of himself standing next to a sign that's right off the interstate (I-65, I believe) somewhere in Alabama. It has a little red devil with a pitchfork painted on it, and it simply says:

"Go to Church or the Devil will Get You!!".

Wee HAW!!!

And speaking of rearranging letters, we have a restaurant chain here locally called Pal's (greasy awful fast food) that posts inspirational sayings on every single one of their marquees every day (same message on all zillion restaurants, a very coordinated campaign). We saw one the other day that said "Blow someone a kiss", and my husband suggested that we remove the "a kiss" part.

Next time...

Here's another one I noticed on my daily commute just the other day:

Giving comes from God

Taking comes from the Devil
