Thanks everyone for your responses; for the most part (excepting, that is, the strange noises from the Texas college kids ) thoughtful and interesting, as always 'round here.

I don't think, after reading your posts, that I could come down strongly on either side (fundamentalist or liberal Christian) as they both have their - er, "justifications". Thank the IPU it's not a decision I need to make

Maybe G_d put the inconsistencies, vagueness and immoral passages in the Bible in order to force his followers to THINK, DAMMIT!
